Actually, a highly impressive first album by Hilary Duff. Very well written and orchestrated material and Hilary Duff already had famous vocal chops as an actress and she's proved it here that she has them as a recording artist. Well above standard production values. Thumbs extremely way, way up! Worth the retail price! Excellent album!

Really excellent song tracks. I found an almost transcinematic quality permeated this album. Brilliant stuff here. Music with a long lasting value quality you can listen to endlessly. Songs you'll remember in a generations time. A few flights of steps up and out beyond standard pop and piano diva fare. The lyrics alone are worth the price of the album. Love it.

Hilary shows us she not only can act and sing, but also push the boundaries on her very first CD! THe songs are creative and demand a lot of her teenage voice, and she delivers. Way to go, Hil!

Frankly i don't see what all the fuss is about. I mean, her vocal skills stink as much as her acting skills. Why are so many people blind to this fact? I will give her an A for effort due solely on the fact that she did try her hardest...but still failed miserably. She should stick to acting...or chasing down stalkers with her mother. Vanessa Carlton has talent, Alicia Keys has talent. Hilary Duff doesn't. Sorry. 1.5/10

Hilary Duff experiments with new sounds and styles to produce a different kind of pop album that transcends the boundaries usually associated with pop rock fusion attempts. Tracks like these show obvious promise for HD in music. She had her sister and The Matrix help produce these tracks and it shows. A professional debut from a nice, talented, classy and emminently lovable lady. Shes also the hottest knockout in entertainment so thats not such a bad thing either. lol 8^O

Hils Metamorphosis stands out on its own in the pop/rock/techno/dance spectrum. there's some of all of this for everyone on the album, but what stands out is that every song's memorable and easy to familiarize yourself with by there immersive complexity alone. there's an unforgettable depth to every one of these track so that they each draw you into the lyrics AND the marvellous musicality they esteem. But there is also a relational connection between all the songs on the album that brings the whole album together as one big solid package. high production values and clever lyric writing help to pull this off. Hilary Duffs vocal skills and chops are enhanced by her being an experienced veteran actress of her age and excellence. It'll be interesting to see if she goes on tour for live performances with the albums material.

it's like a hybrid pop ballad meets techno/dance sound, but even that doesn't describe it. Its new and you can listen to it. I liked it. very fresh for a change.

Another triumph for the Matrix, with some great songwriting and excellent production. I just wish that they hadn't agreed to work with Duff, who has no singing performance experience and, in my opinion, does not deserve her record deal. In a recent interview, she said she wasn't into singing until after they started working on her album. WAKE UP PEOPLE. This is just another way to make money off her tweenage fanbase. Her voice can carry the melody, but is not exceptional and grates on the nerves if you listen to it too long (this is especially notable on the chorus of "So Yesterday".) If Lizzie McGuire had not been such a huge success, Hilary Duff would not have put out this cd - she has no special musical qualifications, or indeed any at all. I could walk down a street and find ten teenage girls with a voice as good as or better than hers. The only people who will buy this album will be 6-13 year olds, the parents of 6-13 year olds, people with 6-13 year old mentalities, or teenage/twentysomething guys who want to bang Hilary. Unfortunately, that comprises a large section of the American population. Expect this album to go Gold or possibly Platinum, although not because it deserves it. 3/10.

A smart and well made album. Smartly written and produced. Hilary's got a fanbase of all ages and it's growing. Her sister and The Matrix worked on this album and it shows. If that's her voice at 15 then she could be on to something.

It's true that every track is a quality track. I loved listening to the whole thing. This'll be a pretty good start for her. I don't know if she'll be performing live but I hope she keeps on recording albums as good as this. Welcome to the club, hon.

Honestly, I couldn't find a single bad thing about this album. Everything about it is very elegant. She worked it out. This is a hit!

This album isn't all flighty poppy stuff. The pop ballads are all surprisingly memorable, (like "Where Did I Go Right", "Metamorphosis", "Sweet Sixteen", "So Yesterday"). The techno dance and rock ballads are equally impressive ("Anywhere But Here", "Party Up", "Come Clean", "Little Voice"). I think if she had decided not to try recording an album we would have been deprived of all these tracks. A smart career move for the lovely Ms.Duff, both artistically and professionally.

Hilary Duff is a serious young talent who has just released a serious music cd. The songs on this album are all well-written pop-rock and dance/techno numbers that she performs with ample professionalism. She knew what she was doing and had pro help when she felt she didn't. Although it's tough to pick a standout track on an album like this when the entire album has so cleanly high production values, my own faves include "Anywhere but here" and "Where did I go right". It must have been tough to record such a uniformly resounding album but she did it and I think credit has to be given to her for the effort. 10/10

It shows that if you do have talent and if you are skilled enogh and if you have the right people working with you you can record a memorable album with priceless cuts and show your public how to get it done right. Juicy gets it done in perfect style and it works out. If she failed no one would notice or care, but she succeeded admirably and she is the toast of music lovers everywhere. That's just the way it is.

Metamorphosis is largely a rock and dance mix with pop, but no real POP sound of the recent kind of pop. I don't even think about popsters when I listen to Hil so I don't compare. Her mentality is different. She's smart. Britney didn't exactly smarten herself up during the course of her career and everyone noticed and that's why her career ended so early. Superior mind, superior attitude makes superior music and that's what Hil's got like a fire engine. That's ultimately what the public wants to hear.

Hils folks are real show biz AND real business people so that's a perfect environment for her. Britney spears had been badly managed almost from the start. Her album sales dived, one bad move after another, they actually fired the only manager that worked for her and now she's actually being managed by her brother?????? Sad, frightening, but true. The poor kid has to get it together or get out of show biz and learn a real trade. One or the other. Hil's already too smart to go that route and she knows it. She'll stick with music BECAUSE SHE CAN and as long as she likes it, it offers her something back and she's successful at it. Otherwise, it's all business. A job. and she doesn't have to worry because she's started off right by not taking on those pop stars with an album that works. She doesn't even have to go there. And, hey, she's got her much superior acting skills and she's the best looking girl in all media. She can't go wrong with that, either.

Well, she's playing different kinds of music and she's from a better crowd and background than that, so theres no chance of those things happening, but I see your point. Well taken. She's obviously interested in many different kinds of music and all the arts and really tackles them and she does them all well. On top of that, she's smart. Smart entertainers have long staying power. She does her own math AND she's hotter than a nuclear meltdown. Those are both tremendous bonuses.

Well, I never compare in a coarse way but she is a smart and educated girl of her age and it shows which, for real, can be rare in show biz. She's sharp and talented, too. At least you don't often see them, but in the entertainment industry the really smart and talented ones are at least greatly respected by the behind the scenes bunch from crew to producers. She's from a whole different crowd and her music is for the real pop/rock/dance crowd. The N'Sync stuff really isn't what she seems to be aiming for.

those big pop acts were often put together without the thought of career longevity in mind. pop in, pop out. it's not as much mismanagement or ineffectual management as limited time management. if you want to be in the entertainment biz then you better think about the long term lifestyle change. there's no 2 ways about it. Hils from the normal, usual crowd of artists. she made a decision to be in entertainment and stuck to it because shes pretty good at it. she tried it out and it works for her. it's a job you have to like. alright, enough of this analysis for today before I charge you a fee. buy her album. accept it. embrace it.

Even if she shoots one w/ her own camcorder. I really love "Little Voice" and "Where did I go right". "Where did I go right" and "Love Just Is"'s a relief to hear amid other artists pop ballads. Every track on this cd is a real solid piece. A breathtaking cd that never lets up. I've already bought them as presents.

Metamorphosis track ambient sounds reminds me of insect rebirth. Very nice effect. Intensely cool and subliminal, suggestive rythmic environments throughout the disc. Very cool spatial ambience. Very nicely done album. Very impressive pieces of music. This discs done well across the board. Very impressive quality. You can learn many things listening to this. Audio, recording, mixing, synthesizers, effects processing, I could go on. Very groovy recording. Impressive material. I think this is the best album I've heard in years. Good stuff. Very nice work.

Try to imagine the amount of v-tracks they used to get those backgrounds and to get them subliminal like that. On the track Metamorphosis it sounds like they may have vocoded a line or so (maybe?). Atmosphere, baby. I'd love to have seen how much they planned it all out and how much they went on their own. This is a freaky album.

They played MM at a club I was at. Very cool loud. I want ta hear this mixed with maximum bass volumes and speeds. Very cool cd.

Hilary Duff, like her new album Metamorphosis, is at once supremely talented and sublimely beautiful. And she's a neat chick, too! I'm always blown over by her. This album is just like her. A wonderful accomplishment of both self-reflection and descriptive originality, perfectly mixed.

She is neat. Yea, there's supposed to be some selfreflection in here because she wrote, cowrote, suggested and chose the music and lyrics. I don't know which is which, but either way it works wonders. Maybe she should keep us guessing and not complicate things with explanations too much. It's one of the great cds for my collection. It impressed me from start to end. There's not much more I can write about it. It can be bitchin' without being bitchin'.

The songs can be powerful while sounding personal and personal while sounding powerful. They can mesh. But I'm no good at this critical jazz so I might be way out. The music and lyrics work out, tho. I'm delighted she found her own voice which really floors me. 25/10

the words to these songs are beyond the arena pop level of comprehension. Hilary really rocks, pops, techno. even "Sweet Sixteen" isn't really teen-pop. it's a teen directed track but not teen-pop as teen-pop/arena pop goes. mind you, she's Juicy. She can do anything.

I love the electric rock guitar songs. there are a few real pop style tunes but with good guitar. good recording engineering smarts. Hilary's got a really good singing voice. I love Metamorphosis because its a good solid album of good music and not a teen arena pop compilation. I found it to be a refreshing twist from the poppy stuff. She did say in interviews that it wasn't going to be like a spears album and it isn't. Kudos have to go to her for trying out new things and taking such a new turn. This is an infectious but wonderful crafted music cd with really great heavy tracks with lighter hard rock/pop mixed in. Pretty deep songwriting. This album really shocked me from Hil. I really love it. I'm listening to it all the time now.

MM's a complete album. Hilary's got some of everything in it, but she focuses on her own style and you can hear the continuity from track to track. A lot of esoteric thinking is behind a lot of this. It's very complete in its offering.

As truly excellent in quality as Metamorphosis is if Hilary actually decides not to return to music she always has acting and fashion modelling and dance and gymnastics and anything else she tries. She is one of the best actresses around today of any age, and that's not an exaggeration. She can really carry a script. As magnificent as her musical debut is she has the experience to carry a show and an ensemble cast. She's also a genuinely smart girl which is always refreshing to see. She's great. She's juicy! Juicy is great!

If she decides not to persue music all her fans, like me, will stand by her on that. although I think this is just the start of a prosperous new career. she is smart and talented. she can write her own lyrics. she can rock with punch. she knows all this. too many things about this to comment on. i found mm to be experimental in approach. it worked out big. gud use of guitar layering. drums have hard gud effect. killer vocal tracks. gud volumes. i think best album heard since Tapestry and Revolver and Abraxis. i feel ver similar when listening. Chico, Gerrard, Midnight, Matrix like who's who. Hilary had participation very hands on like sister does it. ultimately one of great albums of modern music. really too big to break down here. genre needs this new thing like big kick. i think it's more of a new genre.

Technically and aesthetically this is beyond the teen pop music reach. Obviously the producers and Hilary agreed to work with a rock and electronic feel that Hilary was better with and knew how to handle. Hilary has been singing for years with her sister that led her to try her own album. Hilarys singing has live volume. That she's actually a long accomplished actress who had her own no.1 tv show helped with her vocal development at her age. Metamorphosis is a big step up for the fem techno-rock sound it's needed to keep arena teen pop genre at snipers length so it wouldn't dominate teen listeners, without alienating the adult listener end of fem techno-rock that teen arena-pop doesn't share very well. closer to Debbie Harry and Heart than Madonna and Avril stylistically and in approach, but then even that is superficial evaluation. On production level this is very caring sound approach to stick to own effectiveness than phonic resemblance to other material. This makes it a milestone alone.

I like her because she can really rock for shitsake. but she does lots of different things on this album. She wins me over. PeterP.

About the MUCH interview, I thought Rick C seemed ok. He usually never falters from his ok self. I too found the girl interviewer to seem a little tired and snappy but I dont think she really was. Some girls are like that but I dont think she was jealous of Hil being around. Maybe she just likes to act butch around Rick. She IS the cohost. Maybe Rick likes his women butch. Who knows these things. You never know. This is all speculation. I don't think it was like that exactly. I saw nothing of this really. Hil was magnificently boundless and the show went fabulously well. It was an extremely entertaining and informative show. Hilary is the most talented, constructive, charming and beautiful artist in entertainment. An honest delight.

Metamorphosis doesn't actually sound like any other cd. Hilary did things not associated with usual popular trends and styles of today. The production crews did wonders crafting these tracks. This is a very impressive musical opus. Hilarys' vocals elevate this entire album off the ground. On the whole Metamorphosis rockets and soars to places one can only go to in music. 10/10

Given Hillys camera background shouldn't she make a video of all the songs on mm? There's a film in each of them. Like short films. It would probably help to reinforce her first tour and then she could put them on disk.

Kind of an experimental feel to these songs. But it's rocking and next wave and it cuts the mustard remarkably well. A very flying colors success story. It must have been a marvelous production. I would love to have worked on these tracks. That would have been a treat. A learning experience. MMs at the top of my favorite albums chart.

Hilary Duff was on Canada AM morning show in Canada. She looked tired from a day of meetings and charities the day before, but as hot as ever. Really articulate for a sleepy chick but no one seemed to mind a bit. I didn't. :)

The strength of Hilarys' pointed vocal articulations substantially carry this albums' production quality toward a new, more modern, level of compostional accomplishment. Miss Duffs vocals ultimately make this album. She pushes the whole toward a legendary ultimatum. As, too, she displays a rather glowing social attractiveness that cannot be readily ignored. This helps to supplement her vocal prepotency.

I just saw the Much music interview out of Toronto, Canada. I saw no trace of Horniness or butchiness from the shows hosts. Hilary was darling and very informative about what's going on. She is a complete sexy brain babe. she knows what she's talking about! That tutoring is really working out! The girl interviewer was just going "that's so this and thats so that" after "Thats so Yesterday". she was kidding. maybe thats wat u meant? Hilary looks like a perfect young lady. better than a living doll. she looks like a hot girl.

I hope she's explicit with her managers when sleep time is due instead of the other way around. she's new to touring and on-the-road interviews but she'll get it down because it's not too hard. she just has to make sure she gets the basic essentials like sleep, meals, education, reading time and down time so she doesn't make little simple mistakes and the usual things that happen in new job positions. Metamorphosis is a top stuff album of rarity for the big release set. very attractive and listen worthy music. it gets my top rating.

Hilary's got the best managers I can think of and I guess they'd hire the top tour managers for her tour. They'll even give her time for her family and friends and shopping and hobbies and things. About Metamorphosis, it is the best surprise I've had from a music cd in a long time. I was expecting pretty good, ya, but... I got a legend in the mix.

Juicy has a few pop traks that are more like older harder pop rock times. appealing to all rocking ages. and man lots of techno weaved in I don't mind. fucking good album. in your face facets of old school mod rock fusion. if this doesn work she can always return to acting full-time. i've seen her. she's good.

I thought this album sounded a lot like retro 70's electronic mod with other stuff mixed in. Early female rock band influences. Her older sister is Haylie Duff so there's something coming from there. Some very bright touches to this album. A very stylized approach. Perfect vocals for this music style variety with good solid volume and some nice inventiveness. Good definite electric rythm guitar and rythm solos. Clever synth use overall. All the tracks make this a very well arranged album.

ok. this album really floored me with the original material and with Hilary D's vocals. the tracks are arranged in such a way that keeps a real lyrical stylistic flow from the first to the last track which you don't really hear done as well as this. the musicianship, including Miss Duffs vocals, is very studio pro with a live edge feel from all. no contention there. the writing across the album maintains a very professional level. now that Hilary's on the road she should be very liberal with her sleep time so she can avoid making any kind of little simple mistakes including during the concerts and the interview drudgery which can get monotonously tiring to anyone. with this, her debut album, Miss Duff succeeds majestically.

I'll bet it took a lot of guts to put together a cd like this. This was against the grain for things like recent pop. It's not anymore. All the tracks are my favorite but I like "Workin' It Out" in part because I think she and all did to cut this cd right. It's explosively original and it sustains and grows and works.

You can't really find anything to compare this to I think. It's like all the track have a single goal or something attracting them like magnetism. All universally related to a consequence of change. Maybe not like a theme or opera maybe. Maybe more like a telling of a natural atraction to a change or even the change itself. Like mathematical destiny. Like many worlds. Like Hils Metamorphosis. It seems to me its very carefully crafted in this way. I think this makes it even more effective even if they didn't always follow a script. I'm just guessing tho. well I just listened to this alnum and I thimk its stunning! its a marvelous masterpiece!

I found a lot of care was put into the production of Hilary Duff Metamorphosis. It seems to me like they gave themselves a flexible blank sheet to work from. Maybe the sheet wasn't so blank to begin with. Maybe it was blank but she had an idea of the story. She just had to work it out. She had to work out how to put it down. How to get it all down. She really was working it out. I now consider this album to be one of the best recordings ever produced.

MM makes me remember when artists would put as much into the album as into the song. my 2 cents. BO

I wonder in this age of old dead media forms (print, tv, film) dragging weight she has resuscitated the music record album? I had no problems with this cd. I think this is the best cd I've heard since "Brothers in Arms" and I think more. MM is suited for multimedia of past and present. A vinyl would be nice.

I choose to interpret this album by its content and the finished results and I think Hilary struck a chord with me with every track and made me feel very satisfied and refreshed after listening to the entire album. That Metamorphosis works so well as a whole as well as in parts is part of the power that drew me into the complete album. I think it's brilliantly well written and masterfully produced but it's the music and the final album that it makes which achieves the overall effectiveness. She wanted to make an album like this, her and everyone set out to do that and it worked. Its the music. It just works. The overall effect makes it work and sticks into you like nothing else. TO ME, HOW you get there in interpretation isn't as important as you getting there. Know what I mean? I would prefer to go through the experience.

I love the bass end patches they used on Inner Strength. It has a bigass liquid like smooth decay to it and really fills that deep end. I wonder if that's acoustic.

Metamorphosis prooves that, like the first rockers, you don't have to really be rebellious in your life to sing music that itself challenges the normal workings of the grain. the music is the music.

I find there's a lot of dynamic content in music of this nature. she's a very nice and smart girl and I think just wanted to cut an album that wasn't the same stuff that the music industry has been giving the audience for too long. oh ya she succeeded. the songs on this are all memorable mindstopping pieces. "Anywhere But Here"s a good track for me. another thing I like about this album is that Hilary Duff sings it right and not overblown or understated. she sings at full volume at spots but doesn't force herself. shes enough of a pro to get comfotable with her voice and practice singing the songs without making those mistakes in a recording and live situation. a lot of todays pop/rock singers lack this initiative. just practice singing your song lines the way an actress would practice acting her acting lines. practice. it makes perfect.

hil was already known in other fields and she knows how to compose solid music. she'd said for a couple years(at least) she was going to cut an album an she did and it blows me away. she couldn't wait. "I Can't Wait" came out when she was 14/15 I think. We need hot music talent making music! hot!
