How can a band base its success on a crappy cover of a totally awesome song? Falco's version is so much better...

This must be one of the most underrated albums of all time! It has *so * much going for it.Every song on it's a classic from beginning to end. The highlights are 'Laser Love', 'Life In The City' (the keybaord solo at the end is just *amazing*) and 'One Rule For You'. The music is original (thinking man's Pop Rock) with some beautifully crafted melodies and harmonies. The playing is tasteful and song based (no 20 minute indulgencies here!) The lyrics are both fitting to the music and very thought provoking (check out 'Check It Out'). Sure, it's not to everyone's taste but I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates music that can be enjoyed on many levels. All the songs on this record are much more than they appear on first listen. I've been listening to this album since 1979 and I still rate it in my all time top ten so it must have something going for it. In the words of Andy Piercy: - 'Check It Out'!

I loved this record. I saw ATF at the age of 14 at Ulster university in Northern Ireland in October/November 1979 and Andy Piercey''s blue bass with the insides showing and his wonderful bass sound made me take up the bass guitar. Boy, this band were LOUD - my ears were ringing for 3 days afterwards. I then took to wearing a long dark raincoat and dark glasses for years afterwards, supplemented by JACT''s ATF badge. The record, sure, now in 1999, would be dated in sound, but I loved the soul of this record. My old tapes of it still make me feel good ! Wish i could get the b-side of lazer love on CD - a song called "Your love is alive" . I still remember this as a live song, and the beauty of the slow bits still rings true - and especially that bass sound! Wish we could get a live album out on CD, maybe a reissue of the BBC gig - I still have that on tape somewhere. A band much missed. Grew up with ya, will never forget the wonderful music you made.
