Comments for Alan Parsons Project, The, Eye In The Sky

The underapreciated Alan Parsons Projects work has recently become popular thanks to the NBA(Sirius). The other work on the album should be experienced by all rock fans. Besides the Instrumental Sirius, The timeless "Eye in the Sky" and others such as "Old and Wise" ensure this album will be a classic.

An amazingly lush-sounding album featuring orchestration, but still having crystal-clear definition. The songs are wonderful, partly-Illuminatus (the Eye in the Pyramid), partly Egyptian mythology (the eye of Ra) influenced classics on eternal themes. Woolfson, the major song-writer, sings two of the most important himself and Parsons contributes succinct, brilliant instrumentals. The combination of electric/orchestral instumentation on rock albums never gets better than this. While this is towards the softer end of what the Project do it will remain one of my all time favourite albums. The closing track just keeps getting better and better, Ian Thomas.

Sorry, I must contradict. The title song is very good, but this is the beginning of the degradation of APP. I must admit that I really can't remember all the songs because 1984, as a Parsons fan, I listened to this album and was very disappointed, and did not buy it. Since then, I didn't hear any good music from them, except maybe for "Gaudi". Bombastic Sounds like "Don't Answer Me" just cover the lack of musical ideas.

Oops! "Don't Answer Me" is on "Ammonia Avenue" which is still worse than this album. But I confirm the rest of what I said.

This is wery simple one of THE CLASSICS. It contains nothing but superb songs with "eye in the sky" and "old and wise" as the two best ones.

The Eye in the Sky album by the Alan Parsons Project is one of the best albums I've listened to. They blend superb voices with instrumentation that's great.

This album is certainly one of APP's best

I'm sorry, but I desagree with kenzow@ ideas. One thing that maybe he hasn't notice is that 1984 is a very coincidence date to bring out this album, another one made on the line of album-concept. It is very related with Orwell's book "1984". Maybe you should listen it again!

Well, kanzow has some points: it was a change of direction for APP, with Woolfson (under pressure from Arista, apparently) increasingly leading the Project. TOaFC, which preceded EitS, is an absolutely brilliant album in it''s own right, but this one is a masterpiece in subtler ways. The main problem with this is that repeated listenings are essential for it to have its proper impact, as is true of most fine music. There''s no denying that APP did become more commercial on their later albums, and the signs are here, but the balance was still perfect at this stage.
