Deep Purple in general and this album in particular are necessary to know how rock and heavy metal work. The performance of every instrument and their conjuction are perfect

I agree. This is the model of how rock music should be played. The best Deep Purple album without question. A perfect 10.

One could make the argument that "Smoke on the Water" is the worst song on the album. That's how good this album is. "Lazy" is one of my all-time favorite rock songs, and "Machine Head" is probably my all-time favorite album.

The most famous Deep Purple album ever. Unfortunately, this album would signify the beginning of the end of Deep Purple MK II(A) as their next album, "Who Do We Think We Are", would be their last together until "Perfect Strangers." A must have for any Deep Purple fan.

Unfortunately I am already 41 and I am realy big fan of this legendary band. Probably 20 november 1996 is the one of my best days in my life. I have been on thear show in Toronto. What the fantasatic musicians! I heard "MACHINE HEAD" about 25 years ago in my country- -GEORGIA when I was just 16 years young and romantic student. I remember well that I was in shock a few days. And I insist that nobody has done such dynamic ,nice , powerfull rock record after this one.THIS IS THE BEST album without any comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks a lot, George Mekvabishvili LONG LIVE DEEP PURPLE !

Warner Bros. or Mobile Fidelity or somebody needs to issue a remastered version of this classic piece of work, mainly to clean up the song "Lazy." It's one of my all-time favorite songs, but the audible background noise at the beginning of this song is quite distracting. I guess that's what can happen when you "make records in a mobile."

THE album that set the stage for Deep Purple's world-wide success in 72/73. A seamless work who's perfection is marred only by the lousy production. From the opening onslaught of Highway Star to the thundering fade out of Space Truckin', this album is a textbook example on how to create a true masterpiece. If only they could have achieved the spectacular production they got on Who Do We Think We Are here! I love this album and have since I bought the 8-track in 72', but the poor production robs it of much of the power and grace the songs are capable of. Thats why Made In Japan was such a revelation. This was DP's finest hour in the studio. They never put together a collection of songs like this again. Not just a high-water mark for the band, but for an entire era in music. Jim C.
