Comments for Deep Purple, Made in Europe

The first official live release from the MkIII line-up, this wasn''t even released until the MkIV line-up had self-destructed. It didn''t do much in the way of repairing the damage done to DP''s reputation by the horror that was their final days. The playing is not that great, the mix is muddy and the Coverdale/ Hughes vocal duels are here in full force. Ritchie doesn''t sound too interested in the proceedings and it shows. The obvious tampering with the tapes also hurts the impact this album could/should have had. The extremely phony tape loop of the audience at the end is embarrassing. It''s too bad the MkIII Final concerts release couldn''t have come out back then instead. Not only not an essential but on the same level as Last Concert In Japan or the King Biscuit CD. Skip this and check out Live In London or MkIII Final Concerts. Jim C.
