Comments for Alice In Chains, Dirt

One of the most revolutionary albums of our time. Alice in Chains have managed to create a brilliant and emotional story of a drug addicts turmoil. AIC are currently working on their third album, so to all of those who lost faith, they're here to stay.

Engaging and atmospheric with some solid guitar work, but pretty heavy and depressing.

A landmark album of the 1990's: it churns together the most delicate, haunting melodies with a vicious torrent of vocals and distortion. Every song will ingrain itself in one's mind for years to come. No other Seattle band has even come close to reaching the emotional density of DIRT.

This album creates the most dense atmosphere I ever found in any rock album. Notice the vocal harmonies of Cantrell & Staley, giving the songs their own unmistakable style. And check out the lyrics: they are so wonderfully depressive (maybe a little depressing, too)... Great album...

Grunge, my ass.
E-MAIL: jdzarnst@hilltop.ic.edu
If I hear Grunge in relation to Alice in Chains one more damn time, I'm taking hostages. This is a great album, and it's not part of any trendy, banal pseudo-style like what is known as 'grunge'. Almost anything commonly referred to as grunge could be better described as something else anyway...

This album has been particularly influential for me as a musician as it reaches emotional heights other bands can only dream of. The effectiveness of the WAH guitar with Layne's perfectly morose voice captures a mood rarely found elsewhere. If this album is a sign of things to come, then I feel even more depressed that AIC had to cancel out of Woodstock II...

best album of the 90's

In a world of selling out and one hit wonders, this is an excellent album from start to end. Even the tracks that were popular are still good to listen to a hundred times later. The drumming is especially good on this one. This album wont brighten your day, but it will definately make you listen.

Well what can I say except that this is one of those albums that just won't leave you alone. Its been some years now since Dirt was released and still I find it creeping into by tape deck. Strange isn't it how things like this can happen. But its not as if it happens a lot. But only now and again. But when will it happen again? I don't know and hey I don't care as I've got DIRT

The first of the bands to make it out of Seattle... Pretty good stuff...just a touch commercial... Great vocals and guitar work...

The only other band I've heard who's songwriting ability, intensity and sheer songwriting prowess come close to equaling that of AIC is the Ontario bassed power trio "The Tea Party"(with the possible exception of a little known british band called The Beatles) Many bands these days seem to be drowning in the stagnant swamp of post grunge neo-punk garbage a la offspring and green day, but with their new selftitled album it's becoming increassingly clear that chains are holding their own...BRAVO! I only hope that Lane Staley doesn't pull a Shannon Hoon.

This album rocks! That's all that there is to say to it It shows that even after an album like "Facelift" Alice In Chains still had/have some fucking great songs. JUNKHEAD is ONE of the greater songs on this album

With Down In A Hole, Rooster and Angry Chair, may the best album AIC ever did.
E-MAIL: hi@iglou.com
Down in a hole is pretty good and Rooster is a trip. The rest is annoying I give it a 4.
E-MAIL: moorst@earthlink.net
Dirt is one of those albums that change something in your soul... deep in your dark and sticky, where all your darkest hunches fester. In this sense, it is much like Master Of Puppets, Wish You Were Here, or Undertow, because you don't listen to the entire album without it mingling it's darkness with your own. It's not only one of the monumental albums of the 90's, it's a masterpiece for the ages, and those who fail to listen intently will truly miss out on one of rock's thickest flavors.

This album grabs a hold of that puslig mass of muscle in your flesh, twists it around, rips it out, and throws it against the wall. Actually, not, but the creeped out atmosphere gives a good impression of that. This album is truly awesome and indespensible. No AiC fan should be without it. It is many year since this came out, but I''m always ready for a dip into the bloodbath of music that is Alice In Chains
Contains potentially offensive language.
