God, I love this album.
Fantastic, classic last album by the Doors. They added Elvis' bass player, Jerry Scheff, for the recording session, and his bass-playing was out-standing, and made for the tightest-sounding record they ever cut. Contains their master-piece, Riders on the Storm, plus other outstanding songs like L.A. Woman, Love her Madly, Been down So Long, Cars Hiss By My Window, W.A.S.P.,Changeling, and so on.
Fantastic, classic last album by the Doors. Contains their master-piece, Riders on the Storm, plus other outstanding songs like L.A. Woman, Love her Madly, Been down So Long, Cars Hiss By My Window, W.A.S.P.,Changeling, and so on. This album was recorded virtually live at their own rehearsal facility, The Doors Workshop, and co-produced by themselves with their regular sound engineer, Bruce Botnick, after their long-time producer, Paul A. Rothchild, walked-out of the project, because he didn't like the songs! The album was released just before Jim Morrisons' premature death in July, 1971, and was a Top Ten Smash Hit Album, with the hit singles, Love Her Madly, and the posthumous hit, Riders on The Storm. This is their most Blues influenced album and features their usual incredible musicianship and wide-ranging sounds - check out Ray Manzareks' quote from Chopin on Hyacinth House, and the Jazz improvisations of Riders on The Storm. Robbie Kreiger is one of the all-time greats of guitar, whether it's bottle-neck, blues, jazz, rock, flamenco, indian ragas, whatever, and also a brilliant song-writer, e.g., Light My Fire, Love Me Two Times, You're Lost Little Girl, Touch Me, Love Her Madly, etc. etc. Most critics think this is the best Doors album - but all their albums are great.
