It is a great album. It's a bit different of the usual sound of begging of The Doors, with good instrumental riffs.

This is Jim Morrison getting way to self-indulgent. The songs are kind of cheesy and are only saved by a few clever hooks and the soloing efforts of Robbie Krieger and Ray Manserick (I think those are the names) But despite all the obvious flaws the album is worth listening to. I think this album puts the Doors in league with some of the greats (ie Stones, Zeppelin) in that even when they're bad...they're pretty damn good.

This album and Waiting for the Sun were generally thought of as the weaker of Doors stuff. But like the above comment says, even their worst stuff sounds damn good. That's the mark of a truly great artist! As an aside, an artist of today that has a similar eery sound of the Doors music is Mazzy Star. I really believe if the Doors reunited today (and Morrison never died) they would sound like Mazzy Star (of course, replacing the femaly singer with Jim).

Actually, this is my favorite Doors album. The strings and horns make the tunes sound pleasant and Jim's lyrics are still gloomy. Tell All The People is a great revolutionary song. Touch Me is a great hit. Running Blue is a fun tribute to Otis Redding with a nice bluegrass chorus. The title song is just as much an epic as The End or When The Musics Over: in fact I like this song better. I bought all the Doors albums as a kid. Soft Parade is the only one I rebought on CD.
