Comments for Dream Theater, Awake

A great overall album. It does not have one single power song like Images & Words did with "Pull me Under" but it is very good nonetheless. It does, however, have the slower "Space Dye Vest" - one of the best songs I have ever heard - just waituntil you hear it, if you haven't already. It is extremely powerful, well written, and brilliantly arranged.

A spectacular album. Dream Theater demonstrates their incredible talent with this album, but not selfishly or arrogantly. The music is excellent. I think that "Caught in a Web" is just as, if not more memorable as "Pull Me Under." The vocals can become a bit high-pitched and indistiguishable at times, but they are clean and clear for the most part.

I did not think that masterful "Images And Words" could be outdone..."Awake" may have proved me wrong. An album that has everything in it: Blues, Thrash, Jazz, Classical, Metal influences are seen everywhere. Portnoy and Petrucci are incredible as always. They rip through some of the nastiest and heaviest of DT cuts yet in "The Mirror" and "Lie". The epic creativity is again apparent in the three part "A Mind Beside Itself" and "Scarred". Their best work yet! Can this one be out done??? -Doug Orifice WBTY (Waltham, MA) orifice_doug@bentley.edu

I've heard a lot of sh.t about this album like the band has mellowed out and they have a little bit. But did you really want to hear Images And Words over and over and over again. Furthermore, if you think the album is all slow, check out the "Lie", "The Mirror" and "Caught In A Web". The slower tracks, "The Silent Man" and "Lifting Shadows Off A Dream" are amazing also. My personal favorite is the extremely emotional and beautiful "Space-Dye Vest".

They are the best rock-instrumental players i ever heard. I like every track on this album, but Erotomania(?) is the very best!

"Voices" is on the short list of Greatest Songs of All Time.
Excellent album for Dream Theater fans. More "progressive" thanImages And Words....style reminds me of Kansas` "Point of Know Return"album a little.
