Comments for Dylan, Bob, Highway 61 Revisited

The ultimate Dylan album starting off with one of the greatest songs ever written, Like A Rolling Stone. This song sets the tone for the entire album. One of energy, enthusiasm, cold realities, and great instrumentation. Desolation Row is pure free form poetry from Dylan at his best.

Not to be outdone, the last song on this album, "Desolation Row," is another epic, swirling song that just goes on and on for about ten minutes and leaves you breathless. Queen Jane Approximately is another great one. Highway 61 is a superb disk for novice fans to get ahold of. Indoctrinate yourself with this masterpiece.

Hello fellow-Dylan-fans, To my surprise I saw some strange titles in the overview of one of my favourite albums: aren't these called: Queen _J_ane approximately and From a Buick 6 ( the car, you know, or do you spell it like Buich ? ) I hope these things can be corrected in this highly automated environment... Greetings, Paul Joormann

I'm sorry but, speaking as a big Dylan Fan, H61 is NOT his best. Sure it's got some really good songs, (Like a rollin stone, Desolation Row, QJApproximately) but on the whole there is a fair bit of mediocre stuff on it (H61, from a buick 6, etc). Dylans best has got to be Blood on The Tracks. I've no idea why H61 is always quoted as his best.

Highway 61 Revisited; Not Dylan's greatest album as some would suggest, but surely Dylan at his Best! Starting off with one of Dylan's best and most famous songs "Like a Rolling Stone" clues you in on the impact of this album. It is a definative album for Dylan, helping helping him maintain his status as a God in the music industry. The perfect first album for any new fan! BUY IT!

it is quite impossible to declare that ANY single album of Dylan's is his best. they all are written from the heart and give a unique insight to life. this album reflects Dylan's new found creativity in moving away from Folk and going electric

Highway 61 is Dylan going to another level.Like a rolling stone is a perfect choice to start the album and sets the standard. The hammond organ is fantastic in all the tracks.Blood on the tracks is probably better though

the review of this album is rubbish. The catalog number is 460953 2.The track order is like a rolling stone tombstone blues it takes alto to laugh from a buick 6 ballad of a thin man queen jane highway 61 just like tom thumbs blues desolation row The style is rock(or folk rock ore blues rock)

I think the debate of Blonde vs. Blood vs. H61 as Dylan's best is ridiculous. If Dylan had ONLY written the song "Desolation Row" I'd consider him a genius; if he had only recorded H61, I'd consider him a legend. The fact that he recorded not just the one song, not just the one album, but dozens of albums and hundreds of songs of equal quality and artistry indicates that he is one of the most brilliant lyricists ever.

This album, of course, is brilliant, and thirty-odd years later, it sounds just as good; but nonetheless, it's easy to see why he got boo'ed off the stage @ Newport '65 for performing this material. It did take some getting used to, as compared to his acoustic stuff.

One of the greatest albums of all time.

thinly disguised as the greatest counter-culture album ever, at it's core it is actually a mystical "road map for the soul". alchemy in the form of music & poetry. dylan's most esoteric & cryptic work. full of jungian archetypes, it bridges the gap between discovery & creativity on all levels. from the primal scream rebirth of "rolling stone" to the illusions of disillusion on "desolation row" we are invited to trace the steps of humanity. if you have one last day on earth try to fit a listening of this album in. if it failed to make sense before it will now.

A complete and utter masterpiece! A brilliant album which is as strangely assured and yet paranoid-sounding as the man who recorded it. It all starts and ends with "Like a Rolling Stone". But the album does have range to it, from the bitter rock and roll venom of "Rolling Stone" to the free verse imagery of "Desolation Row" through the jagged coldness which cuts "Ballad of a Thin Man" to ranting and tired blues like "Lot to Laugh", Bob is in the driver's seat the whole way. And the trip leads way down highway 61 into the consciousness of another time and place when the last of the troubadours had the world at his feet. Dylan would improve on "Highway 61" certainly, but this was probably the crowning glory. And if you're unsure, turn it up louder.

I couldn't care less if this is Dylans best, worst or inbtween album. What it is to ME is ESSENTIAL.Bloomfields guitar work is exemplary, and seems to fit in so well with Dylans style. Overall this album is a Rock'n'Roll treat!!!
