You cannot claim to like Dylan without having this album. Buy it!

Not only essential Dylan here, essential American music, too, given apt treatment here by Dylan. By the way, his three-minute version of "In My Time of Dying" blows Led Zeppelin's half-hour take off the stage.

This is a fine album by a young Bob Zimmerman, but I would wait for a second album before I would even consider terminology such "must buy". He did turn out to be pretty good.

Although I love this album, I wouldn't recommend it to everybody. If you don't like folk music, blues, or gospel, then you don't need to buy it. There are only two Dylan originals on here, the rest are all reworked traditional songs. Man of Constant Sorrow shines as on of the best songs on this album, followed by Talkin' New York, Baby Let Me Follow You Down, and Song For Woody. Frankly, I think the world would be a better place if Dylan hadn't covered Freight Train Blues. This song can be blamed for the myth that Dylan has an awful voice.
