Comments for Dylan, Bob, Under The Red Sky

Don't be fooled, Dylan returns with an experiment in songwriting, one where lessons and messages, compassions and emotions lurk beneath deceptively simple verses.

"God Knows," "Cat's in the Well," and "10,000 Men" rank up there with the best tracks in Dylan's entire catalog, for me. There's a lot to this album that many folks have missed. . .

I think this is one of Dylan's most disappointing albums; the quality of the songs is weak and considering the musicians that played on this album (Clapton, Steve Ray Vaughn ) the overall sound is not very good . This album demonstrates a waste of talent.

For me this is the best one of his latest albums. Making use of Mother Goose bits the lyrics are quite artistic.

Though I don't think the album deserves a rating of 7.7, I will say that it was highly underrated at the time of release. Dylan experiments, and really, I thought he hit more than he missed. Not the greatest, but certainly not a bomb either.

Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle like a bowl of soup................ Complex stuff. Thougher to figure out than "Gates Of Eden"

on first listening, discounted as evidence of dylan's waning creativity. currently, however, it's a favourite. is this the collection of kids songs he talked about at the same time he talked about doing old covers back in the eighties? anyhow my two-year old daughter loves it. "handy dandy" 's a tongue-in-cheek autobiography with a nod to "like a rolling stone". is this the only instance of a lyric sheet being included with a dylan release?

Unfortunatily there is only one very good song on this album, God Knows, played together with the guitar hero, Stevie Ray Vaughan

The most underestimated Dylan album ever !! Esp. Handy Dandy is a rare masterpiece.
E-MAIL: jcmart@maila.wm.edu
Frankly, Handy Dandy is the only really good song on the album, which lends it that Brownsville Girl "compared to it's companions this is a masterpiece" feel. God Knows is actually pretty good too, and the title track has it's redeeming features. But the rest is Knocked out Loaded quality trash.

Although there may be some questions as to the quality of lyrics, its tough to argue that the music is less than excellent

Bob is on the right path. All he needs is some mormon missionaries and a baptism. Then god will smile down on him.

I agree with the many others that feel this is a misunderstood album. Using the nursrey rhyme stle to present deeper messages is ingenius in songs like the underappreciated 2X2 and T.V. Talkin Song. Also, has nobody noticed that Under the Red Sky is a parable about the fall of communism in Russia?
