Comments for Echo And The Bunnymen, Echo And The Bunnymen

This was the first album I heard by them, and I was hooked. I've read that in the '80s Echo and The Bunnymen redefined British pop music. Though they are indeed a pop group, they are VERY good. This is an album that you can listen to over and over again. Ian McCulloch's lyrics and vocals are wonderful, and the music is almost like candy for the ears...full of bright, undistorted guitars and keyboards, and every song is up-tempo. I definitely recommend this album, as it is a good album to get you hooked on the Bunnymen.

Probably the most accessible Bunnymen album given its new pop orientation. Since I'm a remnant of the raucous neo-psychedelic Bunnymen diehards, I would have preferred a more inspiring hard-edged performance. It is nevertheless disappointing to think that this band has not achieve anywhere near the recognition or commercial success than bands of considerably less talent and legacy, U2 and Simple Minds (both of which, incredible as it may seem, were once opened for the the Bunnymen).

What the Bunnymen tried with this album (and theyīre on their way to achieve it, if it wasnīt the band-split in 1988) was to get in the States the same success they did in Europe. More popular than ever, this album have multi-coloured faces, as you can hear such inspired tracks ("Blue blue ocean"), with bombastic ones, such "New direction" and the right ones to the Billboard charts: "Lips like Sugar", "The game". But they didinīt loose the ability to create beautiful emotional songs either ("All my life"). Great to initiate one thatīs interested in their sound.
