Comments for Extreme, Waiting for the Punchlin

Being a BIG Extreme fan, I am very pleased with this cd. With the exception of "No Respect" it's a stroke of genius. A totally new sound that varies from track to track between vintage Rush and Pearl Jam. Mangini is a huge improvement and Nuno's guitar work (as always) is superb. Pat's bass is THICK and Gary's voice works great w/ the songs here!!

I've got some recommended tracks which are Unconditionally, Shadow Boxing, Hip today, Midnight Express, and Leave me Alone. Leave me along is one great song. It has this real weird but beautiful guitar sound and riff. Midnight Express is one of the best acoustic instrumental I've ever heard. Unconditionally might not be the best love song but it less but more improvisation with just simple chord progression. Hip today should be a hit. With it's original funky motion, it should be able to reach the top 40. Shadow Boxing has the feel of Jimi Hendrix but with the touch of a nice melody. All in all, it's another great album from one of the greatest band.

I think different people are going to like different tracks. I like *Cynical (Fuck)*, *No Respect* and to some extent *There is no God*. Most of the rest of the tracks are cool, but I really don't like *Tell me something I don't Know* and *Midnight Express*. Both because they should an uncharacteristic redundancy in the arrangments. *Midnight Express* was much better live during their '93 tour. This version is so dry (no reverb) and it sounds like Nuno's 6th string is actually out of tune to me. Overral however, none of that matters. What matters is how the hardcore fans feel about it it's entirety and what singles are released for the non-hardcore. I think Cynical's the best song by a looong way, but releasing it may be as problematic as releasing *Get the Funk Out* was from Graffitti (Are they saying *fuck* or what?). I wish them the best, they're a good and underappreciated band. Too good if you ask me.

The most important thing about this album is that Extreme tried to get that "live" sound, which means the producting was of a low level. On the track NO RESPECT Cherone realy goes all the way (hear him scream at the end of the track)! Pat Badger shows on this album that he can play the bass very well and plays funky riffs alone or together with Nuno. A dissapointment was the grazy funny sounding backvocals on "Cynical", is this done to cover-up the F-word??? For an album that tries to achieve a 'live-feal' it was no good idea to use a lot of flange and synthesed background- vocals... Extreme sounds live best when there LIVE!!!!

Extreme is the absolutely most awesome band in the whole world and this album simply proves it all the more. The lyrics on this album are as thought-provoking and meaningful as Extreme songs of the past. This release was handled ingeniously because they did not try and do "Three Sides to Every Story" all over again but instead kept their strong sound with a whole new concept. I highly recommend "Midnight Express", "Hip Today", "No Respect", and "Waiting for the Punchline". "Unconditionally" is a pretty song but they could have done better. The only thing that would have made the album better would be some- thing like "Hole-Hearted" or "Tragic Comic". I anxiously await their tour because they put on a very impressive live show.

Like the last three this is also another GREAT album from EXTREME. The band has definitely matured in both sound and songwriting(this is not a jab at the band),they get better every album. The only problem I think the band will have as far as air play goes,is that the songs are too long. A song that is longer than 5 minutes can sometimes hurt the song or it can become tedious and instead of a song it becomes a "EGO TRIP" ergo Kid ego..!!! Some people say he's a genius or "is his head up in the Clouds"

I like this album very much, although i think it doesn't have the powerful sound as the other albums. To me best song is "No God".

This album rocks... no question about it. Being a HUGE Extreme fan myself, and a guitar player who is slowly learning Nuno's solos and songs, I ran out and got this album the day it came out. I was highly impressed!! Songs like "Cynical", "No Respect", and "Evilangelist" caught my attention right away, and new drummer Mike Mangini's work on "Hip Today" and "No Respect" made me sit up and listen. Mike is an EXCELLENT contribution to the band.. not that Paul Geary wasn't good, but Mike fits in very well with Extreme's style. Another thing I noticed was that you can actually hear Pat Badger's bass lines now! They seem to stand out a lot more on this album than the others. Oh, and Nuno's guitar work on "Midnight Express" left me drooling, even though it really is much better live. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM!!!!

I'm writing this comment from EL SALVADOR, Central America; I'm a super fan from Extreme: In fact, I've got all the albums, and even two more C.D.s (Tragic Comic and Dreams Come True Live). I especially like the philosophical lyrics in all their songs, and eventhough I don't understand everything about the songs I get a basic idea about the topic. I really admire them because they are loyal to their fans and to their ideals and perceptions of life. As Nuno said in an previous interview for the" Guitar Player" Magazine: ..."The Album "Three Sides To Every Story" is yet to be discovered..." I believe so too. I really hope we will have Extreme for much more time. I will always be loyal to people who really fights for what they think it's right. KEEP ROCKING DUDES: A LOYAL FRIEND FROM EL SALVADOR: MANUEL H.

apparently, and sadly, extreme broke up. There's a rumor going on that Cherone will join Van Halen...

mangini is awesome. the beats he plays on hip today and leave me alone are so creative and unbelievable. nuno is great as usual but the cd is missing the classic extreme chorus'' that i have come to love and expect from them.
