Comments for America, View From the Ground

"Jody" is a masterpiece. The rest of the album is also a joy I tend not to compare America's albums to each other because they tend to have different personalities, and thus stand each in it's own space. Pete

"View From The Ground" has some of the best of the "new" America sound. "Never Be Lonely", "Love On The Vine" are songs to be listened to, besides the well known"You Can Do Magic" and "Right Before Your Eyes"('Rudolph Valentino' song).

I don't think most of their 80's and 90's material is as strong as the old stuff, but this is a strong album. It's their most successful integration of electronics into their trademark sound. And I'm thankful for this album because it was what first got me into America's music! Great album cover.

"View From The Ground" is America's best work since "Hearts". Althoubh Dewey Bunnell is featured on only 3 tracks, he makes the most of his opportunity (especially on "You Girl"). Certainly, this is their most commercial recording in a while. Russ Ballard seemed to have injected some much needed enthusiasm. Undoubtably, the finest track is "Inspector Mills". This song is among the fines the band ever recorded.

A very good album! Stands up well with any of their albums produced during their hey-day. I used to think it was their best album as a duo until the release of Hourglass.

Who, who, who ,who ,who, tell me who's in the house - J.C. Carman's in the House with this excellent album. It's up front, the songs are great and he's raising a standard for Jesus.

Never before has a musical artist touched the heart of the hunger people have for Christ. Within every man, woman, and child is a hunger to know him. This is only made stronger by the condition of our nation today. To gain a true burden for the cause of Christ here in the United States, listen to the truly annointed song "America Again" (Track 10, "The Standard"). It cries for a rebirth of Christ-Centered Americans. You don't want to miss it. Write me! I also can receive messages at... steve@ec201.residence.gatech.edu

Totally excellent album with an atmosphere of professionalism that would make your average non-christian band feel behind the times. Don't forget, the video (some of which was filmed in Wales), tidy myn boio! Either way, the devil doesn't have the best music. ><>

I would recommend this album for anyone who wanted to hear Jesus being praised. I saw Carman in concert for The Standard. I was very impressed. The Standard is one of my all time favorites.

At first glance, I didn''t like the "View from the Ground." More specifically, I was accustomed to America albums being almost exclusively written by Beckley, Bunnell, and Peek. The label on the original vinyl album indicated "View" had other ideas in mind. But on the strength of the poppy "You Can Do Magic" and the powerful "Inspector Mills," this album rated a winner. In fact, it eventually became one of my five all-time favorite America albums. While not a group member per se, Russ Ballard at least succeeded in writing a song that had America in mind. The fact that "...Magic" charted in the top 10 owed as much to the familiar, catchy vocals as it did the tune itself. "Right Before My Eyes" certainly was well-crafted, though less America-like than the hit single that preceded it. But Gerry''s "Inspector Mills" proved that the group, while maybe needing a shot in the arm due to its pop slump in recent efforts, certainly wasn''t lacking in real talent. Sadly, the "View" got dimmer again with subsequent albums ("Your Move" and "Perspective") before the ''90s revival that would again prove that the talents, if not the popularity, of Beckley and Bunnell soared above ground level.
Not as good as Alibi, but a great album all the same. My personal favs...Sometimes Lovers, Jody and Never be Lonely.
I agree with spectrum@biddeford.com. Well said in reference to any albums by any artists. I don't compare the America albums with each other either or any songs on the same album. Everyone has favorites regardless. I think all the albums are great and that is why I have them all.
