Comments for Fleetwood Mac, Bare Trees

second album featuring the Kirwan/McVie/Welch writing team, and Kirwan's last recording with the Mac before a serious bout with mental illness. Welch scored the big seller from the record with "Sentimental Lady", which was huge amoung the American college circuit. McVie's "Spare Me A Little" remained a concert favorite well into the late 70's, and Kirwan's Dust (based on a Rupert Brooks poem) were the highlights. McVie's blues piano-based rocker, "Homeward Bound", Kirwan's rock renderings on "Child Of Mine", "Danny's Chant", and the title track, and Welch's mysterious look into Father Nature: "The Ghost" wrapped up the LP along with a poetic reading by England's Mrs. Scarrott. The original recordings were nearly damaged in an airways' magnetic detector, but after a few days of mixing in an American studio, the LP we have here, was born. Overall, a true classic, if for no other reason, because it marked the Mac's first true American-based pop recording, as well as holding on to it's last breath of it's blues heritage, Danny Kirwan.
