A very underrated band who have released this stunning album. With any justice in the world, they would have been one of the world's top bands. Alas it was not to be. However, Follow For Now left us with this album to show an appreciated audience the talents that was never allowed to blossom.

Amazing album. These guys are great musicians. So what the heck happened to them? What are the individual band memebers doing now? They're too good not to be making music anymore.
E-MAIL: S.Montagna@juno.com
AHH,WHAT A FANTASTIC BAND THEY WERE. AND THEIR LIVE SHOW, WHICH I WAS FORUNATE ENOUGH TO SEE BEFORE THE END, WAS PHENOMENAL. THERE WAS NOT A BOOTY GLUED TO THE SEAT. IT'S A CRYING SHAME THEY DID NOT GET ENOUGH EXPOSURE.

This band was better than Bad Brains, 24-7 Spyz, Living Colour, and Fishbone combined I saw them 25 times....the saddest story in history..I really miss you guys

The best live band I ever heard. The album is good but their live performances were awesome! Too bad the record companies screwed them over so bad.
E-MAIL: pot@mail.theonramp.net
First let me state emphatically that, as person who has been listening to "Black Rock" for over 25 years, that I find it repugnant to hear people make negative commentary about similiarties of Black Rock groups. There are commonalities between BR groups just as there are commanalities between White groups. Besides, in all groups we hear shades of the Little Richard's, Chuck Berry's and Bo Diddley's from which this music sprung. As far as FNF is concerned, if there were any justice in the world it would be listed as one of the top albums of the 1990's.( along with "The reality of my surroundings " by Fishbone, and "The real thing" by Faith no More; honorable mention to "Gumbo Millennium" by 24-7 Spyz)

Follow for now is one of the three best bands I've seen in concert and I've seen a lot! I have never seen a 'tighter' guitar/percussion bond from any band. It's like a single brain is driving all the instruments! These guys are magicians! Sure hope I get the chance to see them again. If anyone hears of a tour date, please let me know.
E-MAIL: dml@dpconnections.com
Yeah, what happened to these guys? I saw them once and it was a great show. I've been waiting for the next CD for eight years now...
E-MAIL: DTWare@aol.com
I saw these guys play 6 or 7 times and they always owned the audience. They should have been. I think it sucks that the same year they were kickin it, another local band, Arrested Development, won the grammy for best new artist. Not to take anything away from them, but they weren't even the best band on the Athens music scene.
E-MAIL: gwrth@aol.com
#1 best first effort. Rigth up there with first efforts by Van Halen, Living Colour, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Fishbone, Miles Davis, etc. Where are these guys now? What they did together was magical, perfect even. My band covered milkbone for years and even considered getting the rights to put it on our first release. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of these musicians write me at gwrth@aol.com
E-MAIL: tmmatthews@worldnet.att.net
If anybody knows where I can find this CD (or has one to sell me!), please email me. This is one of those CD's that slipped through the cracks while I was in college and I've been regretting it ever since :(

hey enrique, you still have my jacket. cheryl
Some people saw their first video (Holy Moses) and said ,"Ohthere a Living Colour band" and that`s too bad. Cuz, to be honest *Follow for Now* was much more like *Fishbone*. They playedSka, and vintage Funk (ala Sly and the Family Stone & Parliment)and they also included Rap (`She watch Channel Zero` is a PE cover)This was a good band, that deserved a better response that it got. The records still good though.

Howdy, Me. I a married successful white dude. All white people should buy this album. The Mex, The Black, The White. All should know it. All should keep Kronk about it. I do. And tomorrow, exactly 10 years after first hearing it...I'm featuring it one my radio show. And I've only been in radio 7 years. So.....all who don't know, all who aren't hip, all who don't want to imagine Jimi Hendrix sitting in the Lincoln Memorial should eat their Milkbone and booty crunch the forget out. If you can't buy one I'll get you one. Please buy one. Bring back Enrique, Billy, David, Christopher and Jamie! Long live FOLLOW FOR NOW!!!
This was the baddest fucking band I ever saw live-17 times. Chrysalis going down in flames a mere year or three later was surely some form of cosmic justice. I saw FFN one time at Oak Mtn. Amphitheater in B'ham AL in the middle of a triple bill with Slick Lilly and Widespread Panic-we got there during Slick Lilly, then FFN came on and the place went BUGSHIT with moshing, slamming, dives galore...when Widespread Panic took the stage, everyone just seemed to mill around and smoke dope...the comment the guy made about FFN owning the crowd was deadly accurate. May we eat Pop Tarts and watch Soul Train again someday...did anybody else ever hear FFN play Hard to Handle? Fuck the Black Crowes. Wild Irish Rose
mcleodpurv@aol.com
Best live show I ever saw. Checked them out probably 20 times when I went to UGA. The mosh pits rocked at their shows. Just to let everyone know they broke up early (92 or 93) Heard a couple of songs from album that never made it out and they were awesome. It's a shame. My friend saw the lead guitarist in Atlanta this summer (2001). He was bussing tables. I just can't believe he isn't playing for anyone. I'm sad. PRAISE FOLLOW FOR NOW.

i had the pleasure of seeing FFN about 10 times in jackson, ms. what an incredible live show...and nice guys to boot. david always took the time to talk to people after the show. the picture i have with him (and the rest of the guys) is a cherished possession. i really like david's solo cd...and what i've heard from BRAND NEW IMMORTALS...i just wish the rest of the guys would do something (chris...enrique)...
tfortner@kc.rr.com
Can anyone tell me if they have guitar tab for FfN, or if they know of a site that does? Thanks,

Follow For Now rocked so hard! I went to school at Georgia Southern University from 1990-93 and Statesboro was a regular tour stop for the band. I saw them several times and their shows still stick in my brain more than 10 years later. I loved the album and I've followed David's career since then. Brand New Immortals was one of my favorite albums of the year when it came out too. It's a pity that the record companies stifle some of the true talent out there. Most of the world will never enjoy BNI or FFN. And that my friends, is wrong. One of my most treasured autographed items (and I have many) is my copy of the FFN cd, signed by all. What a great band. - Jason Davis 08/11/02

Yesterday I dug through my old cds and found my follow for now album, which I hadn't heard in a while. I listened and remembered why I bought it, right after seeing them live (at a Black Rock Coalitiion event, if you remember those). I did a search to find out what they are doing now, and all I found was this. It is good to see that lots of people saw how good they really were. Seems strange to say it, but I miss the good old days of the Black Rock Coalition.

I still think about what a nightmare it is that Follow For Now is nothing but a memory. I saw them 30 times. I have gone on sto see probably a thousand concerts, and I must say no one comes close to Follow For Now. You really felt like you were part of something special and that they would blow up any minute. One thing to take into account is that when the album was released on 9/10/91, most of the loyal FFN audience was pissed that the album was nowhere near what their live show was like. My friends, we all know how good that album is, so imagine what a live show was like. Just some brief history, Follow for Now started as a four man band in 1987, and had a white bassist named Justin Sayer (I think that was his name). The other members were David Ryan Harris (guitar) Enrique (drums) Chris Tinsley (guitar). I have one bootleg tape of this lineup 1/26/89 in Atlanta, opening up for Living Colour. In late 89 Jamie Turner replaced Sayer on bass and then fifth member Billy Fields joined on keyboards. THis is when FFN took over and became one of the most innovative rock bands ever. So what sets them apart? One, they jammed. "White Hood" was usually 23 minutes in concert, and "Fire N Snakes" was known to reach a half hour at its best. They interplay between band and audience was intense, with call and response lines about unity and racism and togetherness. Their crown jewel live was "She Watch Channel Zero" by Public Enemy. Ridiculous. It's also key to note that some of their best tunes were NOT on their album. "My Town," "360*," "Mind On," "I Just Don't Listen,"...all unreal in concert. They blew minds back in the early 90s. I remember on 12/31/90 they headlined Center Stage in Atlanta with no record deal, and two signed bands opened for them. So what happened? Well, the wait for an album (or an EP, demo, anything) was too much. Four years. The expectations were too high for a band that had already converted so many. First, the record company said that Enrique - arguably one of the most unique and original drummers ever - DID NOT play on the album. Look closely in the liner notes. He only played on "Time," which was from an earlier demo. People got pissed. Then another three years for a new album. Grunge hit, and all the funk bands took a nosedive. Only to be rekindled years later by morons like Limp Asskit. By 1994, there was no demand for FFN. They dwindled and destructed. Harris made an excellent solo album in 1997 but only played acoustic solo shows, which was stupid. In fact, I gotta blame him for a lot of Follow's problems. I saw him live in 1999 and he talked about how much FFN sucked. People booed him. He thought he was too good for that music anymore, but no one cared and now he waits tables. Billy Fields went on to join Arrested Development and had a band with Enrique called Seek...they were good. Now Billy is a bag checker at the Junkman's Daughter in Atlanta's Little Five Points. A complete shame. KC 9/13/02 The Living Colour comparison really bothers me. It was as bad as today's Phish / Dead comparison...completely unfounded to anyone with an ounce of musical knowledge. It played a big part in their eventual demise.
jasko@unforgettable.com
amazing band, good to see so many of you appreciate it like i do. and about the black rock debate...realistically, those comparisons are going to be made. on one hand, it is a shame that they won't be able to break away from that identity. on the other hand, a lot of black rock groups are so good because they had influences other than just rock and it helped give them a more funky or soulful sound. plus those comparisons have helped me find other groups i liked. if groups like FFN hadn't been grouped together w/ other black rock groups, i never would have discovered them. just something to think about.

FFN is one of the finest albums I have. It's a crime they aren't still playing, I really miss 'em.

FFN was perfect/owned the crowd/ OVER-set the stage for "mainline" event band/ yes indeed the CD is a CLASSIC in its own time. Now my big question is a lame one (don't flame me, please) HOW might I get aholst to mp3s for FFN or BNI ?? I tried morpheus, swapnuts, kazaa.... went and bought the cd again from redordexchange but it has scratches..boo

I LOVED this band in the early nineties! Saw them as often as I could and brought friends to introduce. The guys always made me feel like one of them. I would love to get back in contact with them, especially jamie and Billy. I've looked for them online, and couldn't find anything new on them. The world really lost out when FFN called it quits. How horrible is it that Britney Spears has put out so many albums, yet FFN only had the one???? Anyone who knows where the guys are, please let me know!

I worked as a freelance soundman in Athens and Atlanta, GA throughout the late-80s to the mid-90s, and one of my regular gigs was (with my buddy Bruce Neese) house sound at the Rockfish Palace in Athens, where FFN played dozens of times. Even as a young band, they travelled with their own soundman (Mike), so I worked on their Rockfish shows as the house engineer and assistant. I also provided sound PA services to them (with Herb Guthrie) at countless private parties over the years, and got to know them a little bit. Trust me: everything kcassels (who are you? Tom?) said previously is SO true. They were, hands down, the BEST live band I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot! In a "funny how the world works" twist, a few years after FFN broke up, Chris Tinsley joined MY band in Atlanta (Minority Rules) as the other guitarist (besides me). We played together for a few years, and the more I heard of the "dirt" behind FFN's demise, the angrier I got. They were young and pretty cocky, yes, but those guys were RAPED by those they trusted to protect them, and no one deserves what happened to them - especially considering how awesomely talented they were. That's all I can say without breaking confidences, although much of the dirt is actually well known, just as rumor. Anyway, good luck finding your copy of their Chrysalis release, which, despite some hamfisted production by the 2 dipshit producers / brothers (who were complicit in screwing over Enrique, and who are as responsible as anyone for killing this band), it's still a great listen, for the material and performances alone...although it'd be much better with 'Rique's swing. Peace, Brendan

Just to set the record straight on FFN (I hired them for their FIRST big jobs $1000, 3 times as the Social Chair of the LXA house on Georgia Tech, when they had a white bass player named Justin) - Dave is NOT bussing tables, he is on tour playing with John Mayer (saw him on SNL one night). Dave is doing well. Last time I saw Chris (the other guitar player, and sang a few songs), he was working at Fellini's pizza in ATL in 2000. The first time I saw them was in 1987 or 88 at a GT Street Pub, where Enrique (17 year old drummer) got busted by the police for something. I fell in love with them, and they played the best Hendrix cover to close. The played our Halloween party that year and we splattered our LXA house with pumpkins spayed everywhere. Justin, Dave, Chris and Enrique - you still owe me for the Burger King.

I was lucky enough to see Follow For Now once. I wish it could have been 20 or 30 like some of you other lucky people!! I saw them 'accidentally' when they played at 'City Stages' in Birmingham, AL. That is a once a year function that blocks off a large part of downtown, and has several stages set up for all different types of music. I guess all I can say is that I was lucky to have good taste in music, so I stayed at one stage! When FFN came out, most everyone was wondering what they were going to be like. They opened with 'She Watch Channel Zero', which deemed to be a wonderful opening. By the 2nd song, NO ONE was sitting!! They rocked!! I remember leaving there saying....'I have to get that CD!!!' So I did. Then, years later, I wanted to dig that CD from the depths of my collection (I know it shouldnt have been buried, but it was...shame on me!!), just to find that it was nowhere to be found. Then I got a taste of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)!! I would not stop trying to find that CD again! Then, magically, it appeared on E-Bay of all places!! I would check E-Bay almost daily, hoping, it would appear, then it did!! I was ecstatic, needless to say. But it had 5 days before the auction ended. Oh no!! How much am I willing to spend on this CD?? Remember I have been searching frantically for it!! Well, minimum bid was $5, so thats what I started with. Amazingly, thats what I ended with......FIVE DOLLARS!!! WELL worth it!! So, I sent my check, and waited. The waiting seemed like it took forever!! Then a week later, I came home from work, and there it was......a bubble lined miniature manilla enveolpe. I ripped it open and put it straight into the CD player! WOW....the memories it brought back!! Then, not even a week later, I got a phone call from my mom and dad. They were cleaning out our storage unit and found a box labeled CDs. Low and behold......my original FFN disc!! I was lucky enough to find one (after madly searching), then not even a week later, my original!! It just seems like FFN would have gone further than they did. I hear so many people talk about how they were one of the best bands. With all of these people who liked them, how come the record labels/producers let them slip through the cracks?? Its a shame knowing that this group of people that rocked so hard are now holding regular jobs like the rest of us. They should be entertaining us still....they should be on MTV!!! SAD.

The first time I experienced FFN was at gig on the UAB campus (Birmingham, AL)in which they opened for Fetchin Bones and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I remember thinking that they pretty much looked like they strolled onto the stage from the nearby Southtown Projects: Real raw, stripped of pretense. Needless to say, they rocked, and I became a huge fan. This was circa 1989. Over the next few years I managed to see them dozens of times, even designing band merchandise and traveling with them. Like all "real" art, there were times when an FFN show was something to be suffered through...Ohhhhh, but those times when they got it right were truly vertigo. I still speak to David on the odd sighting, but I have not seen the other guys in over 10 years (God, has it been THAT long?). Like so many of you, I would relish a reunion of the band--but only if they wrote new tunes to go along with favorites Milkbone, Mind On, Channel Zero, etc. I submit that we all google David Ryan Harris and begin the "snowball" that reunites the band--you heard it here first! Peace. Love. FFN. 4Ever, Y'all.

Enjoyed reading all these comments about FFN! I was a soundman at The Nick in B'ham from 90-92, and Follow was the first band I met that had "it". Fucking rocked!! Sweaty southern summertime Friday night shows in that lovable shithole by the projects. Pure rock and roll. Speaking of The Nick - no one has mentioned the "white elephant" who had such a big part in their meteoric rise and fall.... I was their last soundman - the last gig we did was some sort of cattle-call gig for Georgia Tech frats to see the bands they could book for parties that year. Pitiful. I agree with other comments here - the making of that record is what killed the band. The aforementioned producers/brothers/dipshits dumped Enrique, claiming he couldn't play to a click track. By coincidence, one of the producers happened to play drums! Go figure. Enrique played better with one hand than the dude on the record. Anyway, seeing what happened to Follow was the beginning of the end of "the dream" for me. No one was protecting those guys when they needed protecting - they were young boys on the edge of greatness, and they were raped and thrown out with the trash. The music business is just that - business. Here's a great quote from Hunter S. Thompson: "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." Coincidentally, here's a quote from Billy at a Nick gig: "I tried something last night for the first time, and I want to recommend it to everyone here. It's called buttfucking." How prophetic. I ran the sound at about 2000 or more gigs in ten years, and FFN was the greatest live band I've ever seen. "Peace out."

p.s. BTW Stan - still got my FTWH t-shirt! peace, 11-11-05
