Comments for Shepherd, Kenny Wayne, Ledbetter Heights

KWS's Ledbetter Heights is the best blues I've found in a long, long time. The CD is consistently good, which is a rarity these days. The first time I ever heard KWS I was driving down the road with the radio on. A local station played "Deja Voodoo". I was so blown away by it that I literally pulled over on the side of the road and just listened to the rest of it. It was several weeks later before I heard it again and got the name of the artist. Kenny Wayne Shepherd has brought joy of a musical kind back into my life. I have not been this excited about discovering a new artist for a long, long time. I only wish I could find out where he is performing this summer. I would definitely make a road trip to see him.. I can say KWS is my main musical interest now and will probably remain my main interest for a long, long time. I predict a rest-of-my-life love affair with his music. He has awakened something in my spirit and deep in my soul that I thought had died with Hendrix and SRV. Thanks, Kenny.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is a breath of fresh air. I hope he continues to play for many years. It is rare that someone so young plays with so much maturity and heart. Usually, someone has to have lived through the every day blues to actually know and play them. I bet he had one hell of a past life experience to have come into this life kicking. What a great artist.

I would like to take some time to set the record straight concerning Kenny Wayne Shepherd. For some of you, this young and talented guitarist could be the next SRV; but real blues fans know the truth. First of all, SRV's shoes will never be filled. Secondly, a true bluesman has to be able to sing. Admittedly, Kenny is full of potential (I've seen him several times); but relying on his father's connections as well as overproduction to make a successful album is insulting. My recommendation for those of you seeking talented, young bluesmen: check out Ian Moore, Tab Benoit, Keb Mo, or Chris Duarte. For these players deserve the recognition - not Kenny Wayne Shepherd!

I must take exception with the previous writer. While I''ll agree no one will fill SRV''s shoes, the statement that a "true" bluesman must sing is a joke!! First of all the blues, like rap, is not about "singing". It''s a cry, a wail, from the heart. And the way a person expresses this can be vocal or through any instrument.... including the guitar! Just because the person is not the "front man" in a blues band does not mean he''s not a bluesman!!! I know many great bass & piano players, drummers, etc. that would be very offended by this outragous statement. If you knew anything about blues beyond what you''ve read in a book, I wouldn''t have had to write this. My sugestion to this writer, if you want singing... listen to Julie Andrews. This appears to be what you''re looking for in music. And to Kenny...... keep playin'' those blues!!!
The best blues rock album I`ve bought in years.Kenny Wayne Shepherd finally fills the void left whenStevie Ray left us. At 18 years old, it`s certain we`llbe listening to him for years.
