Comments for Gang Of Four, SOLID GOLD

This is their second album. It''s kind of ambitious; they hired a reggae producer and tried to stretch their tightly-wound funk sound out a little into extended, groove-oriented tracks. It''s intentioanlly not as focused as the first album. It sounded much more impressive at the time, but it doesn''t sound bad now either. The lyrics are typically silly and hard to take seriously (though they would certainly have you do do). After this LP the original group split up, with bassist extraordinaire David Allen leaving to later join Shriekback, and drummer Hugo Burnham eventually leaving also.

GANG OF FOUR IS A VERY UNUSUAL BAND, UNIQUE IN MY RECKONING.A MUST FOR TRUE FANS OF PUNK AND UNUSUAL MUSIC.
