Comments for Germano, Lisa, Happiness

I'd also like to say that this album is incredible as well, (as per review of geek the girl)..i believe geek the girl to be a bit better because i like her ethereal dark stuff better than her folk rock stuff. but this album is just as incredible. songs like energy, happiness(its so damn sarcastic you want to cringe), and especially the darkest night of all(which was recently featured on an episode of homicide, which caused me to break down in tears, the perfect song for the perfect scene), allow you to get inside the head of whom i believe to be the best songwriter available now. energy should have been a monstrous hit! and to that dude stalking lisa, get a life and leave her the fuck alone!!!!!!!!

This album is a bit less soul-torturing than Geek the Girl, but musically it is by no means inferior. One of my most favorite tracks from this album (and I love them all) is Around the World. It has great presence and is almost intensely laid-back. Lisa Germano''s voice and lyrics fit her music well, and you can listen to this album and not feel cheated musically, lyrically, or sonically. The version I own is the 4AD version, and it has a very interesting feel to it. It opens with a cascade of heavily-reverbed guitar and then settles into a quieter bit which grows smoothly into a great song, with Lisa Germano''s slightly quirky yet poignant lyrics and vocals becoming the main focus. From here, the rest of the tracks, if they do not instantly grip you, will grow on you with wondrous rapidity. Please excuse my verboseness...what I really mean is I LOVE this album, and I''d like nothing better than to see Lisa live. If you''re into somewhat out-of-the-mainstream and creative music, check out this album.
Don`t be fooled by the fact that Lisa used to play for John Mellencamp, she is a solid songwriter. This album is much more folky, and less ambient than Geek the girl, and is perhaps a bit better. I can`t understand why `Energy` did not become a huge hit, as it is extremely catchy. An album that every "alterna-folk" fan should own.
