Comments for Grant, Amy, Behind The Eyes

Track one is "Nobody Home" not "Nobody Love"! My mind was on something else at the time of typing in.....

I think comparisons to LEAD ME ON are inevitable. But this is really a new Amy Grant -- actually, an Amy-Grant-in-progress looking at life from the crossroads. Too esoteric? Every time I listen to this album, I hear more revealed. This introspective release is brave, sad, vulnerable and hopeful all at the same time. One of my favorite cuts is "Cry A River" -- a really beautiful chorus, and surprising subject matter for a "gospel-pop princess": deep regret over the right love at the wrong time. Musically, she packages -- and not always neatly -- her lyrics in primarily acoustic arrangements with some cool bass lines and a few jangly guitars. Apart from "I Will Be Your Friend" and "Leave It All Behind" those breezy ''70''s choruses are gone. "Takes A Little Time" makes you think of Tom Petty''s guitars. But the closer, "Somewhere Down The Road", really brings it all together. It is an amazing expression of the sometimes fragile but ever enduring hope and faith that keep you going when you see life for what it really is -- the pain and joy of the journey.
Newest release by Amy Grant. Sounds like her LEAD ME ON days. A bit more acoustic and a bit more rock! Highlights include the first single, "It Takes A Little Time", the Glen Ballard (of Alanis Morissette fame) and Siedah Garrett penned, "Nobody Love" and the beautiful "I Will Be Your Friend". Production credits alternate between Keith Thomas and Wayne Kirkpatrick.
