Comments for Harding, John Wesley, It Happened One Night

This is a wonderful album, and I think that Wes should stick with a solo acoustic act. Apparently a new album is coming out soon, so he'll probably tour with the Attractions again.

Quite simply, the best live album I've ever heard. The fact that it's Wes just playing in a bar for his friends only makes it cooler. I would have loved to hear a studio version of "One Night Only" or "Roy Orbison Knows (The Best Man's Song)". My only complaint even closely related to this CD is that after seeing JWH four times (twice in venues holding fewer than 200 people), he still won't heed my plaintive cries and play "Humankind" live.

The best live album I have ever had the pleasure to listen to; this record is a true delight. Maybe after your first 500 listens, you will stop finding new things that you previously missed and simply start enjoying the album on its merit, and not on its sheer brilliance.

John Wesley Harding embodies all the qualities that I aspire to as a writer, myself. Among them are: sensitivity, sensibility, sarcasm, humor, and a keen sense of how far to take the tangent before getting back to the main point, usually succeeding as both political writer and musician. I had the opportunity to see Wes several years ago in the flats in Cleveland. He played a three-and-a-half hour acoustic set to an audience of about 100 at the start, which dwindled to about 15 by the time he left the stool. He was cool as all Hell It Happened One Night is the closest I have come to the thrill of actually experiencing Wes, solo and acoustic, face to face. Strongly recommended to even the most casual of fans!
This is Wes`s first and, arguably, best album. Anyone wholikes folk music should buy it.
