Comments for Husker Du, Flip Your Wig

***1/2 (5 star scale)-- Some more great songwriting from Bob and Grant.--J.teel

Husker Du released two albums worth of music in 1985, and while this is a feat in itself, the fact that both records are magnificent is an even greater achievement. "Flip Your Wig" rocks from beginning to end, and features a large number of standouts, most notably "Makes No Sense At All," the underrated "Private Plane," and "Flexible Flyer."

I challenge anyone out there to find a record with as many stellar songs than FLIP YOUR WIG. You'd be hard pressed to surpass wonderfully fuzzed out, melodic gems like "Hate Paper Doll," "Makes No Sense at All," and "Private Plane." If you're just getting into the Huskers, and not sure which album to start with, start here.

Finally ditching their former tuneless hardcore tendencies (well, almost!), this LP is packed with great, classic songs, with both Bob and Grant contributing gems of equal greatness. When Bob''s introspection (Games, Find Me) starts to get too heavy, along comes a whopper like Flexible Flyer and lifts you up again amongst the psychedelic clouds! Imagine, if you will, Motorhead playing the Beatles, and you''re half way there. My only gripe is, the mixdown isnt that great, the guitar is too muffled and leaden-sounding, and it drowns out the bass and drums a little. If they''d achieved the same sound in the mixdown as Warehouse..... welll...!!! Classic pop (NOT Hardcore!), all the same.
