Comments for Iona, Beyond These Shores

I definitely reccommend this album. The single Treasure went to number 7 in the American CCM charts and I can see why. Joanne Hogg's ethereal lyrics are enough to stir the coldest of hearts and the 'green bucket' song is mighty powerful. Did you know, Iona's bassist, Nick Beggs used to play in the '80s band Kajagoogoo? Embarrassing or what!

This album is incredible! The beautifully crafted lyrics combined with the rising swells of the instrumental accompaniment create an awe-inspiring desire to worship God! As one listens, one feels as if they are at the water's edge feeling God's heart for others!

This was the first of the albums by Iona that I acquired, and I *definitely* would recommend it to anyone who likes good music. There are plenty of Celtic sounds to please those who like that particular style, but the whole album is fresh enough to be enjoyed by fans of just about any taste. Looking forward to their next release due out in January '96 here in the US.

The music of Iona gets better and better as time passes. Hearing the development from their first album onward is incredible to me! The music is not only incredibly complex and rich enough to satisfy the most intellectual of musicians, but also provokes an awe-inspiring wonder of God and his glory. I would definitely recommend Journey Into the Morn when it gets released and hope that in the future everyone here in the USA will get their music when the rest of the world does!! :-)
The 3rd release from these Christian artists. Each releasesounds more powerful, and more beautiful. The band haverecently won a Dove award for best international artist (Feb 1994)

I have only heard 'beyond these shores' on this album and it is all inspiring. I love celtic music generally but more especially the ones that put me in a mood for God's worship, Iona does that to me :-) I would love to get the entire CD, unfortunately it's not very popular here in nigeria, thus hard to purchase. Soo if anyone cares to send me a copy... please mail me for contact details!! :-)

Worship comes in many forms. The sound and lyrics of the track, Beyond These Shores, struck me as the only piece of music I've ever heard that has the ring of truth that Kate Bush reaches in "Dream of Sheep". I hope nobody assumes I'm calling Iona derivative. It's a compliment of the highest order. And the swells that one commentor noted are given partly by the presence of the amazing Mr. Robert Fripp,(especially in Prayer On the Mountain),whose spiritual grounding, though not Christian, is passionate and has subsumed his whole life. Thank you, Iona, for keeping your sound in the midst of such wonderful company
