Comments for James Taylor Quartet, Mission Impossible

Pay attention when you listen to the first track, (the theme to the 60's motion picture) Blow Up. You'll recognize a riff that Deee-Lite later borrowed for their very successful first single "Groove Is In The Heart".

Actually, that riff was nabbed off Herbie Hancock "Bring out the birds" or something, I can't remember the exact title right now. JTQ nicked it first though...!

This was originally released as a vinyl ep in 1987 on their own RE-ELECT THE PRESIDENT RECORDS label (cat. REAGAN 2). "One Mint Julip", "Be My Girl", and "Untitled 1 & 2" were not on the original release. It was later re-issued on CD (combined with "THE MONEY SPYDER") called "The First 64 Minutes" (also without the extra tracks).
I believe this is a fairly early recording by JTQ, despitethe release date -- it certainly sounds as if it was recordedas a band in the studio rather than multi-tracked, & it`stight acid jazz. Several original instrumental pieces pluscovers of famous themes - a trademark of JTQ (They`re good live!)
