Comments for Jawbox, For Your Own Special Sweethart

It is evident that this band has its roots in the Dischord label, but they have progressed much further. The only reason that i wouldn't give this album a 10 rating is 'cause they get better every time they release something new, and i have to have somewhere to go...Definitely give this band a listen.

I adore this album.. I'm Searching all over the place for any of their other albums at the moment.. -sigh- If it's anywhere near as good as this (and indie releases are usually way lots better) i'm gonna be super happy =]

This is hands down the most brutal Jawbox album. It is the first album I ever heard by the band and I immediately went out and bought everything else they ever did. "Sweetheart" is one overwhelming listen! The production (courtesy of the band and Ted Nicely) is extremely LOUD and clangy and to the uninitiated may seem a bit to much to take at first, but once you get your ears situated, it will definitely be worth your while. Every song is amazing and lyrically they are untouchable. This band is not Grunge! This band is the pinnacle of everything else so-called alternative claims to be but isn''t. Enough said.

These guys just came off Dischord (Fugazi, Nation of Ulysses)and they totally kick ass. I wouldn`t really call em grung, butthat is probably why they got signed to such a big label.Check them out.
