Comments for Journey, Raised on Radio

The last Journey effort, this album showed how structured and reliant on production Journey had become. Steve Perry's voice was already a shadow of what it was on Infinity, and the compensation for any real creative outpouring is this collection.

Suzanne is the absolute worst song ever released by anybody in the history of rock. It is a shame that they stained a brilliant career with such garbage. They did well by not including it on the greatest hits or the box set (even though it made the top 40). As I recall, it took the 2nd biggest drop in the history of the Billboard Hot 100. They never should have made the stupid song in the first place.

This album is redeemed only in the eyes of Journey-fanatics. Sell out, over production, commercialization: all those words can be used to describe it. It really was a great way to stain and tarnish an otherwise successful legacy up to that point. My vote for Suck of the Century - "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever." Avoid at all costs.

Don't know why everybody slams this album so bad, except that it is the worst of the catalog. It has it's redeeming qualities; however one must remember that the band as it was was practically history by this point. Instead of a Journey album, I prefer to think of this as the best Perry solo effort. Seriously, if you turn "Once You Love Somebody" and "Happy To Give" up to the max, they sound great, and "Be Good To Yourself" is a cool tune. As for "Suzanne", well...it's been said. Stay away from the title track by all means!

First of all, I don't know wether you all are naive or just plain stupid, when you critizise Raised On Radio that way. Sure, it IS overproduced, it IS commercial OTT, but, how can you ignore and be so arrogant against such great gems like Suzanne, Why Can't This Night..,etc when they are of such CLASS, and BRILLIANCE that, still after 10 years of listening to the album, it still sounds as fresh as ever ! I don't know wether you are fans of Journey or if you believe that bands on the scene today is the best thing since sliced bread, but you can't blame them for being too commercial ? Then don't forget, commercial nowadays is worn out clothing etc, which Journey, the best AOR act EVER, will never ever be a part of ! I must say though, I'm in no way a "softie", I love their Escape album, and their Frontiers album, wich both are more guitar oriented pieces, Schon is THE best guitar player around, BUT, Raised On Radio IS one of the best ever releases, no matter how "overproduced" or "commercialized" it may be ! There you go. I even work at a magazine named after the album !

Raised On Radio was the first album after their Greatest Hits that I purchased, and there wasn't one song on there that I found to be "un-Journey". You guys don't know squat when you put down the sone Suzanne, because quite frankly, it is one of my favorites, and I thought it was well played and sung. As for Steve Perry's voice, it never left him. What do you mean, he lost it after Infinity? Even after Journey's 10-year breakup, he still has got more of a voice than ever. He hits those high notes quite well, and I consider him to be one of the best vocalists of all time!

ROR is an incredible album. Say it''s over-commercialized etc. It''s still better than anything I hear out there these days. What happened to great music like Journey, anyway!!! The 90''s have stunk!!!!!! Perry''s voice sounds incredible on "Why can''t this Night..." A solid album!!! Saw them on there Vacations Over Tour. Can''t wait to see them Summer 1999.
