Comments for Journey, Trial By Fire

They're back ! Not as good as their "classic" AOR albums, but still a very worthy comeback ! One thing that just has to be pointed out, is the fact that the Bonus track on the Japanese version "I Can See..", should have been on the regular release. It really should. Thing is, that track is too good not to be included on the album, a real rocker with some really "dirty" guitar playing from Schon, he RULES on that one ! For anyone who's interested in bands like Journey, and other great melodic acts, should send me a mail, cause I'm working at Sweden's premier melodic rock/AOR magazine called...Raised On Radio. And in our recent issue, we have a song-by-song review of "Trial..". Sounds interesting ? Well, send me a mail with your complete address, and I'll get back to you, asap.

Trial By Fire is a great album. They must have been listening to Queensryche. Even Perry's singing sounds a little like Geoff Tate's on some tracks.

Perhaps not a blockbuster, but a very good album -- at very least, a strong return for a band that hadn't recorded together in a decade. Their ventures into new musical territories (e.g. strings in "When You Love A Woman", African sounds in "Colors of The Spirit", and even Reggae in "Baby I'm Leavin' You") are admirable and generally quite successful.

this is a worthy journey cd. It''s great to hear them again after all that time! steves voice sounded quite unusal this time around, but I think he was going for something different. I like the new way he was singing, besides there were those moments where he allowed his voice to sound the same as always. Change is good.
The sound of Journey is definitely back in `96...just too bad that Steve Perry`s voice just isn`t what it used to be. But overall, a very good album! If you would like to hear an excellent album...check out one by The Storm "Eye of the Storm". It`s only available as an import. The band is awesome and is made up of ex-Journey man Greg Rollie and Ross Valory. The lead singer of The Storm is what Perry used to be...a POWERFULL voice!!!
