Annie Lennox in Diva has produced an alblum worthy of her voice, which is to say, incredible. In this she has shown the music community that she can stand with the best. On a more personal level, I find the music beautiful, true, and relaxing -- and she has never uttered a word that she doesn't put her whole life's meaning behind. This alblum, and Medusa are must-buys for everyone.

Diva? Diva is Annie Lennox and Annie Lennox is one of the most exeptional singers in all times. Every song presents a part of anyone's life - mine, yours, his,....

One of the ten best albums of the rock era, "Diva" at times sounds like the goal of the past thirty years of pop evolution. More than thirty years, really, when you consider Lennox's classical training and her pre-rock influences such as Broadway musicals and American jazz. "Diva" covers expansive territory, including dance pop ("Little Bird"), adult-contemporary perfection ("Walking On Broken Glass"), blue-eyed soul that hits the mark Bowie always aimed for and missed ("Precious"), modern hip-hop tinged soul ("Money Can't Buy It"), the Joni Mitchell-like sophistication of "Why", a torch song in "Cold" and the folkish sincerity of "Primitive". What's perhaps more impressive, "Diva" manages to wrap these distinctive elements into a single, coherent package that plays like a unified album, not simply a collection of nifty songs. Lennox had hinted at her genius repeatedly during her stint as one half of the duo Eurythmics, but on her own she's managed to strike a perfect balance between the pop sensibilities of her Motown and showtune mentors and the lyrical and musical artistry of her rock and pop mentors - Joni Mitchell's genius is often recalled by this album, especially on the incredible opening track "Why". Lennox has often copped the "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" attitude, but here there's a richness and a sadness - and occasionally a malicious joy - of a sophistication that she's never achieved before. There are dual meanings and hidden connections strewn all over the album. Even the song title "Why" can be taken two ways - is it a lonely question from a confused and hurt Lennox, or is "Why" her answer to someone else's questions of her? Stevie Wonder's organic soul bleeds from tracks like "Precious", while a jazz-like edge, meanwhile, cuts through "Cold". Joni Mitchell's twisting melodies whip through "Why", along with her complex lyrics. Writer Dave Hill's 1985 comment that "Annie Lennox is the missing link between Joni Mitchell and The Future" looks almost prescient in light of "Diva"'s direction. The Monarchy may be on the verge of tumbling, but Britain can take solace in the fact that today's premiere pop star calls their nation home. "Diva" is Annie Lennox's finest hour, and a must-have for anyone who appreciates perfection in pop entertainment.

Gran disco.
