Lowell George's best. How come a guy this hip let himself do something so unhip as overdosing? Is there a finer kick than the kick contained in "Fat Man in a Bathtub"?

You know it's sad when rumors can be repeated so often that people start to believe the rumor is true. There was never any proof that Lowell died of an overdose -- only speculation. His body was cremated shortly after his death. I spoke with Fred Tackett shortly after the tragedy. Fred had been on tour with Lowell at the time. Fred told me that Lowell had been completely clean for the tour, and was trying to stay healthy. I saw Lowell's last performance in LA at the start of that fateful tour. Unfortunately, I had never seen Lowell bigger. The real cause of Lowell's death was that the stress of his extra weight, on top of the stress of the tour, was just too much for his heart. Lowell was a fine and wonderful musician. It's good that we have this legacy of work to remember him by.
