Can you say, "Masterpiece?" Yes, you should be asking if this is a masterpiece - here, Merzbow has taken 21 hours of recordings (from concerts, apparently) and trimmed them into one humongous track, a track with many sides, many turns, lots of distractions, plenty of variety - but, in short, a towering mountain of noise!And to scale that mountain to its upper reaches is something of a marathon - challenging, even exhausting, but greatly rewarding. Not only can you say you`ve accomplished listening to over seventy minutes of noise, but over seventy minutes of GREAT noise.Even though the tone changes from fragment to fragment, the result here is much more straightforward and "destined, yet eternal" than on Merzbow`s Great American Nude.The resulting collage is awesome - Merzbow creating noise music from noise music; now he only needs to create noise music from all of his albums, and he`ll complete the pattern!Whoever thought noise could be so beautiful? Followed by a sequel in 1996.
