This is one of the best debut rock and roll albums I have heard in years. The original, Def American release is preferred, but take this Delicious Vinyl version if you have to. The order of the songs are different, and there are two new tracks. Rick Rubib did some excellent production here, and they were the first group on his label. I don't know why he dropped them.

Somebody tell me something about these guys... I've heard the Candy Song, Kill the King and Magical Spell and love 'em. Who are they, where'd they come from and where are they now?

This is one of my all-time favorite albums! I like musicians that aren't trying to be too serious. Does anybody know if they are still together?

Masters of Reality are still around. I am the bass player, Googe. Chris Goss and I live in Los Angeles and Palm Springs, CA. There will be a Masters LIVE CD coming out soon! And hopefully a studio release sometime next year.

This album is on top of my all-time favorites! I bought the cassette based on hearing "the candy song" on the air. I wore that tape out a long time ago and the CD never leaves the player. Glad to hear that there are plans for new releases.

Basically this is the same album as Blue Garden with a new track,Doraldina'Prophecies(which smokes!). This band apparently can do no wrong. They are simply brilliant and its a crying shame they do not win Grammys on a regular basis. This album smokes although I wish they put the artwork from the first release on this one as well. Not that this artwork is bad I just prefer the first. Im rambling.

This is the greatest album ever made. It's my all time favourite and I bought it, after I heard another cover 'Magical Spell' and 'Getting High' I'm from Holland and I never hear anything about Masters of Reality. Now I read they're planning a new release soon. I'll surely buy it! Tije Oortwijn, Netherlands

Ooops! Guess the entry above was because I was lost for words! Great debut from a great band! The Delicious Vinyl version is only available as an import over here. The initial line up split after this LP, guitarist and drummer going on to form the Bogeymen (one album 'There is no such thing as...'), again available on DV. This LP has to be the Masters' finest hour, 'Sunrise...', the follow-up was mellower and blusier, so is, in a way incomparable to the blustering Rock of this debut. This LP had it all, hard hitting music, only brief snatches of lyrics inside, and that dark mysterious oil painting on the cover!

Here in Spain the Masters are not famous but they're great. Chris Goss made a lot for music in the 90's thanks for these great albums and thanks for all Kyuss CD's too!!

this album is THE album of my lifetime. I've heard a lot of music in the 20-some years since my parents bought me my first LP, "Band on the Run", by Wings. And this disc continues to be the standard by which all others are measured for me. I listen to everything from Monk to Jon Spencer, from George Winston to T.Rex, from Lyle Lovett to Rage Against the Machine...and none of it, NONE of it, can hold a candle to this disc. FIND IT, BUY IT, DON'T TAKE IT OUT OF YOUR CD PLAYER!

I bought this even though I had the First release. Googe, you guys rule all

This record smokes!!! Just bought the reissue after my original cassette bit the dust. In fact, I'm listening to it as I type this up! Nothing compares!

This album is damn good, i had to buy 3 tapes because all my friends kept swiping them. If you don't like the Masters, you gotta step off. Roll down the windows and crank kill the king---everybody be lookin your way!!!

I heard the CD; I bought the tape; I bought the record (you should see the full cover painting); some one gave me the cd which is impossible to find; I learned to play the songs- doraldina's prophecies is my favorite off the first release. This is great stuff. Maybe a studio release will be out this year (1998). This is a wonderful band with wonderful songs.

I heard "The Candy Song" on the radio & bought this album. I played it. Words can't decribe. "Doraldina's Prophecies," "Theme for.../Domino," and "Kill the King" in particular are amazing. 'I jumped on an alligator/I thought he was a horse...' and 'Thank heavens for the blue laws/we were swimming in our Sunday clothes...' are evocative to say the least. I reviewed this album for my college paper (the Kennesaw State University SENTINEL) in Fall, 1990, I think. I wanted people to purchase it. I ended the review saying the Masters were a kind of cross between ZZ Top & the Doors, because I couldn't think of anything else. Next quarter, a guy in Speech said, "Hey, are you the guy who reviews records? When you said Masters of Reality are a combination of the Doors & ZZ, I bought it. Thanks!" That's what I have to say to the Masters: THANKS!

The album, and the band, are the best that's ever been. There are only two ways to look at it, the way I gather: either you love the Masters or you've never heard of them! Keep making music!!

Googe, Any chance of the Masters coming to Portland, Oregon?

This release burns white-hot. Killer, ham-fisted riffs and clever lyrics keeps it fresh all the way through. The rhythm section is a real cooker, and this album grooves baby, yeah!
E-MAIL: adel90@hotmail.com
this album fuckin'' rules!!!! whereever you may go, just make sure you have this tape on you because the more you hear it, the more you gonna love it. overhere in switzerland nobody knows them. i hope "welcome to the western lodge" will change that, and everybody''s gonna fall into their magical spell.
Great rock album, highly recomended!
