This album rules! I remember when i got this record back in 89 and i havent heard anything quite like it since. I have the original release as well as the re-release and though i love both, i prefer the version of "magical spell" from the 1st release because the solo was cut from it on the second release. Anyway this album totally blew my mind because of the many different elements involved in the delivery of the music(EX. Rubin's dry production vs.the intricate harmonies, sound and vocal effects etc. Totally new yet totally familiar. Definitely one of the best albums of all time and the best project Rubin has ever been involved with.

The unique sound the Masters achieved (with thanks to Rick Rubin's masterful production) on this album is unparalleled in modern rock. Texas blues with a bottom end that sinks into infinity. Chris Goss' sweet voice and smooth delivery is the perfect antithesis to the Black Sabbath savagery delivered by his guitar work and the band coherent thunder. Heavy metal without the glam nor the pretentiousness. Only Abbey Road moves me EVERY TIME I LISTEN TO IT, the way this one does. If you can find this highly critically acclaimed CD, buy it. If you don't like it, write to me and I'll buy it from you, for whatever you paid, because, if it's possible to wear out a disc, mine will be worn out before long.

I remember when I first saw this album. I was cruising the record rack at the Wiz during the summer of '89. Everyone I loved to listen to had already released music and toured. It was a dry spell for known music. As I whirled through the M section, I came across this wacked-looking album cover that reminded me of something from my parent's music collection. There was no name, except for the band's name, Masters Of Reality. "Must be a Sabbath wannabe," I shrugged, and considering my reverance for Sabbath, I bought it. When I got it home and played it, I realized I was MAJOR LEAGUE wrong! The sounds that flew through my stereo were like stepping in Doc Brown's De Lorean and going back to the days of my extreme youth, like when I was 1! HEAVY guitars and crashing drums.....I was in ecstasy. After digesting "The Blue Garden"(which I wouldn't realize until 2 years later was the actual title of the album!), I rolled a joint of "El Herb Primo," breaking it up on the CD cover (shades of the '60's!) , smoked up, and cued it again. (If you've never listened to it stoned, you're missing out, trust me.) It is the greatest musical trip you will ever take. To paraphrase Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap, "This album goes to 11!" Fred

Thanks to whoever put up the order for the song list. I had a copy of the original "Blue Garden" on tape, but lost it. Found the CD, but was disturbed by the new order of things. When dubbing a copy onto tape, i tried to put the songs back in their original order, with the two new tracks placed at the end, but couldn't ever figure out how to get the order just right! Now I can, and connect my Invisible Scientist with its Domino. Can someone tell me where can i purchase live at Viper Room CD?

THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREAT ALBUMS !!

Tim Harrington, lead guitarist for Masters of Reality was my guitar instructor back in Syracuse. He stopped giving lessons about a month before he released this tape to give him more time to devote to the recording. He offered to give me lessons out of his home then, but I foolishly declined. I didn't realize at the time what a dumb move that was until after I bought this tape. I love the unique sound and still enjoy listening to it today. I only wish I could find the CD.

I'm happy that doraldina's prophecies was added on the re-release of this great bunch of songs. The Masters of Reality is the World's greatest living band.

Whoooaaaaaaah! What an album! If you've never heard this then I suggest that you beg, borrow, steal, lie and cheat your way round to getting a copy. And I mean, like, last WEEK, man!

Where are these guys? Blue Garden is one of the most original rock albums of the past 10 years. Wow! I hope they''re still together. One of my favorite records ever!!

This is one of this best debuts of all time. Rick Rubin signed Masters to his newly formed label Def American, and worked his magic production on one of the best debuts I have ever heard. Why he dropped them from his label, I don`t know. The album was picked up by Delicious Vinyl, and re-released in 1990 with some additions. The Candy Song has three cymbal crashes at the beginning, there is a new track Doraldina`s Prophecies, and an un-named short bango picking track. The group also changed the order of the songs, and placed them extremely close together. I prefer the original release. This album has many influences, most obviously Uriah Heep and UFO, but that is my opinion. Guitarist Tim Harrington and bassist Googe went on to form The Bogeymen, and released an album called "There is no Such Thing as..." in 1991, on Delicious Vinyl. It is strange, but recommended. There was supposed to be an April, 1995 release of the third Masters of Reality album, "Ballad of Jody Frosty", but I have not seen it.
