An excellent debut album for Me'Shell. Jazzy and funky, this album shows her musical prowless. Although the general mood of the disc is chill-out-ish mellow, the messages of many songs are strong enough to command thoughts over it.

I thought this album should have received a grammy. It's truly funky in the deepest sense. She plays most of the instruments on it but it features some intriguing stunt musicianship by Joshua Redman and other jazz stars. Strong production values and an organic, non-mechanical/sequencer feel combine to make one of the best funk/rap albums of the year.

Plantation Lullibies is a prime example of a complete album all aspects of meshell''s musical flavorsare sampled-and quite tasty they are-funk unlike anyone of this time- distinguishes herself in a musical rea where it''s cool to be a militant ''me against the world'' female armed with a guitar and a song-thought provoking and conscious-my encouragement for reading Souls on Ice by Eldridge Cleaver -keep up the good work-and revisit North Carolina soon
