Comments for NdegeOcello, MeShell, peace beyond passion

Another great album for Me'shell but this album isn't as strong as her first. The move toward "real" drums with drum monster Oliver Gene Lake was a great idea but the sound on the album "thins" out too much. There are still a few great songs but I wish the album had more of the subtle complexity of the first album. Still recommended however.

A couple of songs are realy good. Some tracks sound OK but are nothing special. "Deuteronomy: Niggerman" is the best track on this album.
This album:"peace beyond passion" is the next step forward onMe`shell Ndegeocello`s spiritual path. She has graciously given us a glimpse into her world via the mode of soul transport. The songs:Free My Heart,The Way,and God Shiva allowher to question and answer traditional doctrines in her own soulful manner. She touches the fringes and at the same time delves deeply into our sensuality with the songs:Stay, Bitterrsweet, Mary Magdelene, A Tear and a Smile. To have theextraodinary caliber of musicians chosen for this album, tookincredible foresight. With the likes of her drummer:Gene Lake;guests: sax:Joshua Redman, organ:Billy Preston, this album is averitable silvermine of funk greatness. This album is a must have and most definetely a must-listen to. ENJOY!!
