Comments for Orb, The, Orbvus Terravnum

The orbs last album just didn't seem to hit that existential mark as good as their last few albums. Before you were left wondering what planet you were on, now you'd just rather get off then go anywhere. The album is filled with prog noises that are sometimes unlistenable considering the cleaner sounds the orb were once responsible for. Get it if your a diehard fan.

A different sound from UFOrb and their earlier albums, but also very good. It takes a few listens to get used to, since a number of the songs are long and filled with complex samples. It takes a while to find the rhyme and reason within the album, but once you do, I think you'll agree that The Orb is one of the pioneer ambient groups and easily one of the most meticulous and experimental. Check it out, but keep an open mind.

Another fine release by Orb. The tracks within and anti- hype and have no time limits. They travel onward without haste and for good reason: why hurry a good thing. The 13 minute ''Plateau'' provides smooth ambience with an unaltered theme, but has subtle changes throughout to make it a wonderful track. ''Occidental'' provides the groove, ''Slug Dub'' provides the drum and bass (along with some far away atmospherics), and ''Oxbow Lakes'' is my favourite stand alone track. A fine, fine piece of work. A reason for negativity may be the patience that Orb have when it comes to getting to a theme of a song on this release. One may take several minutes to hit the gist of the song, while others may take minutes to fade away. But why hurry? Don''t buy it for hype, buy it for quality. (8.5)
