Comments for Pet Shop Boys, Alternative

I havent found this on cassette yet, so I haven't heard most of it. I did want to say, though, that "Shameless" and "Bet She's Not Your Girlfriend" are great. I could have written that last one. Talk about hitting home with your fans.

"Alternative" is very interesting. It's not a great album (all B-sides, so some of it is pretty bad). But "Jack the Lad" and "A New Life" are very good songs. Surprised they didn't make the cut for a real album.

The best PSB disc out, no question. Without commercial restraints, 3/4 of the songs deserve an A+. Besides the above listed tracks, "In the Night" is great fun.

"Alternative" was an unforseen blessing especially for hard core PSB fans. "Jack the Lad" is one of the better of this collection of B-sides. There are also a few versions of these cuts I had never come across(i.e. "Miserablism", "I want a dog" and "Don Juan"); however, "Don Juan" was edited from the original cut on the "Domino Dancing" single. Overall, a definite must for fans.

A great collection for any fan. Some brilliant tracks are on this CD set, they include the excellent "Some Speculation", "Hey, Headmaster", "We All Feel Better in the Dark" and "A Man could get Arrested" All in all, a great trip from the 80's to the 90's through the medium of pop.
