Comments for Baez, Joan, Gulf Winds

This album, sadly out of print for several years, is well worth searching out. Apparently inspired by her experiences on Dylan`s Rolling Thunder tour, Joan`s songwriting became both prolific and inspired; the results are included in this album, one of the only Baez albums to be comprised solely of her own compositions.

9/17/2003 -- I have just learned that Gulf Winds, in its entirety, will be included in a 4-CD set scheduled for release on September 23, 2003!!! I once found this out-of-print record at a specialty shop and loved it; but as mentioned in another comment, Gulf Winds has been almost impossible to find and I have never seen another such album anywhere since then. A friend loved this record so much she "borrowed" it permanently. It's my understanding that the new CD set will contain all the recordings that Joan Baez did with A&M. This includes the Diamonds and Rust album. I have a lot of trouble finding Joan Baez music of any kind, but was told to check Tower Records and Borders Bookstore. Anybody who reads this, please spread the word about this new CD release. Apparently, Gulf Winds sold poorly the first time around, so it wasn't available very long. Despite this, it is a wonderful album. The last time I listened to it was about 1987 (before it was taken by my friend). I can't even remember which songs were my favorites, on this album, but I do recall that I listened to this album over and over and over and have been searching for another one ever since. It would be so nice if the sales of the new release would make up for the lack of sales the first time around. I've owned every Joan Baez album except two (which I've never seen for sale anywhere), and have worn out several copies of some of these. I've never grown tired of any of the songs and have loved every one of them; i.e., I never "skipped" over a song because I didn't like it -- I cannot say this about any other musician. I loved every song on Gulf Winds, as well. I hope that others will enjoy the songs from that album as much as I did. Again, please let others know about this new CD release.

My mom has a copy of the gulf winds album. I am also sad that i cannot find the album. I can geta copy to you. Ed
