Comments for Rolling Stones, Beggars Banquet

The most important song of this album is Sympathy for the Devil cause is the one that gave them that dark, magical and Voodulistical image that they have been succesfully feeding ever since. And of course the party at Altamont didn't help. Some credit however should be given to the beutiful Marianne Faithful cause she gave Mick Jagger the book THE MASTER AND MARGARITA from where Mr. Jagger got the lyrics of the song. With "no expectations" Carlos Gonzalez

Welcome back Stones! After two shakey albums, Between the Buttons and Their Satanic Majesties Request, the Stones are back with the brutal and scathing, Beggars Banquet. This album produced two of rocks greatest songs; "Sympathy For the Devil" and "Street Fighting Man". It also features one of Mick's personal favorites, "No Expectations". Beggars includes the raunchy "Stray Cat Blues", the bluesy and just as nasty "Parachute Woman". The song writing team of Jagger/Richards are at their best. This album is full of genius, evident in the rarely heard gem, and my personal favorite off Beggars Banquet, "Salt of the Earth". If you call yourself a Rolling Stones fan you better own Beggars Banquet. - Robbie Fenwick (Western Kentucky University)

Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed, Get yer Ya-yas out, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main Street: The best 5 consecutive albums by the Stones.

My #1 Favorite Album of All Time! Even better than Exile which is often said to be the best album of all time. Every single song is brilliant. Street Fighting Man is my favorite Stones single ever and the other 9 album cuts are just as good. If you don't have it, get it! A+++++++++

The best Stones album. I can't go through a period of more than 24 hours without hearing "Stray Cat Blues" and "Prodigal Son". -William Kaplowitz

Sympathy For The Devil. Unbelievable. Absolutely. I also agree with memansbas comment about the first of the five greatest albums produced.

Jigsaw Puzzle is fabulous. I think it is a song about every day life. It is funny in a way. Alot of the lines I could relate to.

I have always enjoyed the rolling stones, as long as I can recall, anyhow. I have listened to "Sympathy for the Devil" many times, but it was not until I listened to the song in a graduate, comparative lit class, during a discussion on Dante's Inferno, that I really understood the song. In fact, Bulgokov's The Master and Margarita, as I understand it, was influential to some degree. This is an excellent novel satarizing the literary circles in Moscow under Stalin. But, I digress. "Sympathy for the Devil" now means much more than it did before, and I must applaud the band for providing differnt generations a musical, artistic and literary commenary.

I can't count the number of times I've listened to this disc, especially "Jig Saw Puzzle", which is rarely mentioned as the great song that is is. "Sympathy.." is simply brilliant, both lyrically and musically; it has a mystic feeling to it.

I first heard Mick's opening primal scream to "Sympathy for Devil" while in high school in 1977 and have enjoyed it over and over again since. I found a new appreciation for the song when researching some of the unclear lyrics at a web site recently. The defiance and mysticism of the song as it builds to that razor sharp guitar solo is genius. The whole album was really a needed turning point forthr band and parallel the Beatles White album as a return to the band's R&B roots. By the way if you haven't seen The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus video , it's worth renting if not to see Mick slither on satge to the jungle beat of Sympathy while sporting his Beelzabub tattoo.

I am a fourteen year old kid with parents who have been telling me about the greatest rock and roll band since I was in daipers, until recently I hadn''t listened to them much until one night when I was going through my parents record collection,I stumbled across this album.I said to myself let''s put this album on and see what all this is about, I put it on my turntable and starting hearing these jungle drums and then Mick Jagger''s voice,"Please allow me to introduce myself....".Now I have Let it Bleed,Exile on Main Street,Sticky Fingers,Stripped, and Some Girls. I also have the movies Gimmie Shelter and Rock and Roll Circus, but I still think this one is the best album by the greatest rock and roll band. For me the highlights are Factory Girl,Salt of the Earth,Dear Doctor, and Prodigal Son.
