Comments for Baker, Anita, Rhythm of Love

i am very dissaponted with this album and the previous one before it. i can see she has worked with well famous and talented producers to get it right. The truth here is that Anita has failed to deliver the great and emotional melodies where is the magic sounds of sweet love and giving you the best that i have got. she needs to get some songwriters together to create those magic arresting tunes. lyrics alone dont make a good song you need great melodies too. i apolgise and body and soul are not as sweet as sweetlove she should apolgise to her numerous body and souls who have remained devoted to her waiting for her to churn out the good old tunes.

I, too, was somewhat disappointed by this album when it first came out, particularly because there had been such a long wait since the last release. "Rapture" remains my favorite album, and I find that I continue to love it no matter how many times I listen to it. But I must admit that I started listening to "Rhythm of Love" again this spring and find that I enjoy more than I did before. I think perhaps it is because I no longer had such high expectations. I've also seen Anita perform live this summer, and her shows were so wonderful that my enthusiasm was rekindled. Give this album another listen.

Anita Baker has scored a jazzy success with this album. I personally think that it would have been difficult for her to do any better, in light of some previous efforts. This is, by far, Anita's most settled in recording. It shows that she knows who she is and who her audience is. With songs like "Sometimes I Wonder WHy," Anita has reminded us time and time again who we prefer to sit at home listening to by the fireplace on a cold winter's night. There are very few masters in the music industry today. Thank God we still have Anita.

Even though this album lacks the melancholy, moody feel of "Compositions", her most complete (and best) work to date, I agree that repeated listens are needed to capture the full effect of her truly gifted interpretations. There will never be another "Rapture", but Anita doesn't try to repeat that on her last two records. She does something musically that other artists should also consider doing: GROW.

i think anita''s version of ''my funny valentine'' is one of the most original around. i love that arrangement - it sounds like it would belong in "compositions." in a way, this album seems to have every style of music available from her previous albums - excluding "the songstress." songs like ''the look of love'' and ''you belong to me'' (incidentally, these two covers are excellent, i think) have the moodiness of"compositions," while the more commercial-sounding ''body and soul'' and ''wrong man'' remind me of "giving you the best." the most unusual song here, in terms of the lyrics content and driving beat (did she mean this for the dancefloor?) if the title track itself. the overwhelming music does the rare thing by nearly drowning anita''s vocals, which sound as if she was trying to compete with the programmed percussions.
