I would just like to say that this is "Todd" at a peak of his creativity. Arguably uneven at times, yes, although this collection of sounds is brilliant in its originality. Still in high school when this was released I found myself mesmirized by the abstract and sometimes maniac electronic excursions. And being a part of the post hippie-era experimentation with mind altering pursits this album was perfect. I am surprised that the comment made reffering to "Lord Channcellor''s Nightmare Song" as being bad was made. This is Todd having fun and his personality just jumps out at you. How can you also mention the "spark of life" as classis electronica? After years of following Todd on the road and on the turntable, this album is my all time favorite of any record I own. Thanks from a devotee, Alan R. Grimm
One of the all-time track-skippers, Todd is a mixture of the transcendent (The Last Ride, Don`t You Ever Learn) next to useless sound effects (The Spark of Life, Chakras) with a dash of the plain bad (Lord Chancellor`s Nightmare Song). Originally a 2-LP set, this could have made an excellent single release. Did the extra record fulfill a contractual obligation or something? Listening to In and Out the Chakras We Go would lead one to believe so. Still, the high points are some of Todd`s very best. No 1 Lowest Common Denominator proves that Rundgren could have been a guitar hero if he had wanted to, his old pop style is visited on A Dream Goes On Forever and Izzat Love? and An Elpee`s Worth of Tunes is one of TR`s funniest novelties. As a single disc, definitely worth buying but be ready to program that CD player.
CERVANTES
Todd is my all time favorite album number two (the first being AWATS).Of course, some of the songs here are not really easy to appreciate (in fact,it took me ten years or so to be able to love tunes like, for example"in and out the shakras we go")but i now listen the whole thing with great pleasure.I know that's an album i'll always be listening to:for me, it's richer than anything by the Beatles or Bowie.
