Comments for Rundgren, Todd, A Wizard, A True Star

AWATS is a mixture of pop and rock with lots of synthesizer and a cornucopia of ideas, not all of them good. In its original LP release, the 1st side was a suite of a dozen selections, with over half of them clocking in at under 2 minutes. Its quite a ride, but after buzzing through them all maybe half could stand alone as real songs. Once you burn off the dross there is still a lot of excellent music here: a spacy version of Jiminy Cricket`s Never Never Land, WTSHTF/Sunset Boulevard, Sometimes I Don`t Know What To Feel, the soul medley, and Just One Victory are all highlights of Todd`s catalog. This one is beloved by Todd fans, many of whom consider AWATS a classic. As for me, Just One Victory alone makes it worth the purchase.
