Comments for SPYRO GYRA, Dreams Beyond Control

Well, Spyrogyra are to be applauded for their choice of covers. Both, "Patterns in the Rain" and "Send Me One Line" are superb songs by Scottish singer/songwriter, John Martyn (check out "No Little Boy" on the Permanent label). However, the implememtation is less impressive. In their original form both songs are models of charm and understatement. This is lost in the covers due to Spyrogyra''s inappropriate choice of vocalists and the heavy-handed instrumentation. Do yourself a favour and program these tracks out of existence. The remainder of the album is pleasant, but little more. Go back and listen to "Morning Dance"!
