Comments for Barclay James Harvest, Gone To Earth

On second thoughts: This is more a rock album, than a progressive one. Also, I realise I''ve used the word "hooks" three times (I should''ve proof-read this once more), but you get the idea.
Not a concept album as such, but this one flows together nicely. It lacks the real orchestration of some other BJH efforts, although Woolly does a great job of filling the gap with keyboards. Essentially, a collection of guitar-based songs, with lots of hooks, by three different singer/songwriters: John Lees (guitars/vocals), Les Holroyd(bass/vocals) and Woolly Wolstenholme (keyboards/vocals) with Mel Pritchard on drums/percussion. Sometimes sounding a bit like America, this is a collection of great songs loaded with hooks and harmonies. Woolly also appears on the Mandalaband "Eye of Wendor" album (Davie Rohl`s project, he co-produced this album). The opening track is very religious, but otherwise the subject matter is varied and thoughtful (although occasionally sexist, but this was 1977). Probably the best album from their early years: a solid work with only good songs and plenty of catchy hooks.
