One of the greatest things going in 1985, believe me ... a coinfident masterwork of an album mixing dance-club sensibilities, hard rock, and ambience. Most of the tracks on here are actually better than "Nemesis". Under-heard and underappreciated.

dangerous, sensuous, knowing. a must discovery for anyone who understands "jamming is a science."

Shriekback - one of the lost. Some of the tracks on here were used on Michael Mann''s Hannibal Lecktor (well, that''s how *he* spelled it!) movie ''Manhunter''. Both this LP and ''Jam Science'' were the crystallisation of a complex and original funky ambience which no other band have equalled. For bags of atmosphere and intelligent lyrics this is a classic album...
1980s Stream of Consciousness: Shriekback were formed out ofvarious past members of XTC, Gang of Four, and a few othersources; some songs in this appear in the great Michael Mann(see: Miami Vice) movie Manhunter; "Nemesis" was the biggesthit off this, and if you frequented any "progressive" clubs ofthe day, you heard this. I put it in the Rock category b/c ithas so many elements of everything else (mostly synth-pop,funk & industrial) without being exactly any of them. Highlyrecommended. Oh yeah, and they opened for Simple Minds, andblew them off the stage with ease...

I watched Manhunter tonight and was so completely affected by the scene with This Big Hush as the underscore. What an incredible piece of music.
