Comments for Sloan, One Chord to Another

E-MAIL: Cindy
Sloan is an alternative band from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, but they are not known well outside the borders of that country. However, they possess some great potential for their heavy indulging in 1960s rock, à la Beatles, Dave Clark Five, The Rolling Stones, etc.; some of their songs even sound like they could have been made in the 1960s. Even their style is much borrowed from this period, but this ''borrowing'' trend in the 1990s is not that unusual. Possibly if they were promoted in a mainstream way their music would become more successful, instead of being treated as a little, underground, Canadian alternative band.
Sloan has done it again. They have produced another very unique album. This album, just like 2x Removed, can`t be really classified as alternative or pop. Sloan has developed a new catagory by using horns, piano, and even maracas, make up OCTA. The first time you listen to it, cetain songs like "The Good in Everyone", will be ones you instantly like. But once you reach your 3rd-5th listen you will start to appreciate songs like "Anyone who`s Anyone" and "A Side Wins". Then finally you will reach the point where you appreciate all the songs on the album which gives this album the highest honor a listener can give it.
So many awesome songs on this almbum, each has it's own sound and style but all can hold there own.
