Comments for Soundgarden, Down On The Upside

after having heard dotu about twenty times now, I can honestly say that it may be better than superunknown. the songwriting on this record must be heard to be believed. I can't imagine another group of musicians who are so talented, and who grab me by the hair so effectively. at the moment, there aren't any stand-out tracks for me, at least not in the vein of fourth of july from superunk. *all* the songs kick butt, which should not surprise anyone. I can hear a lot of hater and temple of the dog in this album, but that may be because the band seems to be taking a more melodic approach to songwriting. however, the time changes and smash-mouth riffs are still here in never the machine forever and ty cobb. but the level of melody and sometimes beauty is now well above anything they have previously achieved, in songs like burden in my hand and bootcamp. all in all, an record that was not only enjoyable to record, but a record that is fun to listen to. I hope they continue to record together for another ten years or more.

This album ranks as one of the best of the year, and possibly of the century. One of the most outstanding aspects of soundgarden is that everyone in the band contributes to the writing of the songs. They are a true band.

This is an awesome album. I got the cassette cuz I wasn't sure if it was going to be a "keeper" or not. Well, I will be getting it on CD very soon cuz it's the best thing they've done. I think it is far better than "Superunknown" and I loved that album. The entire first side of the cassette (the first 8 tunes) is outstanding. And side two has several awesome cuts as well. You cannot go wrong with this one. I rated it a 9. I just bought about 6 new releases, STP was one of those, Joan Osborne etc, and this was the one I was least sure about. Well it's by far the best of the bunch that I bought. I gotta say it's the best album I've heard this year!!!

This album really rocks. It took a while to get into but now I can't stop listening to it. I think Ty Cobb is one of the greatest on this album, that mandolin thing rules! Other outstanding pieces are Zero Chance, Tighter & Tighter, Burden In My Hand and Blow Up The Outside World!

oh, shit!!! does anyone know why Soundgarden quit?? what the hell do i do know?? why did this happen??
E-MAIL: ca3596@webtv.net
Soundgarden ruled! they quit because they have class and wanted to end on a high note unlike some bands whose latest albums suck and unfortunately thru the miracle of mtv and corporate radio will probably be annoying listeners for many years to come(Metallica).

I believe that this is the worst of Soundgarden's albums. Threre are some good songs, but they do not compare to the previous albums. However, Soundgarden is still the greatest band of all time!

worst album?! you're a fool! oh, golly. but it is the final album. sniff, sniff.
firt off Chris Cornell is a master poet. his lyrics are poetry. all of the band members are exellent musicians and masters of their respective instruments they create true synergistic music when they record!
