Spider`s debut album. Band members were Amanda Blue, HollyKnight, Keith Lentin, Jimmy Lowell, and Anton Fig (currentdrummer in Paul Schafer`s band on David Letterman). The single"New Romance" spent time on "the charts". Their single "LittleDarlin`" was remade by a French singer whose name I don`t remember.

I would love to know where and what the other members of Spider are doing presently. I see Fig with Letterman, I know Knight's been writing still. But what about the other three, especially Amanda Blue. What a great voice she had! I loved both of the records and the remakes by Tina Turner and John Waite just don't match the originals. Amanda Blue now goes by the name Amanda Leigh. She has released two albums. I have one but the songwriting and production are weak and the album's pretty pathetic. She has always been one of my absolute favorite singers but that album is just awful. You catch hints of her greatness--small hints, though.

Spider reformed as Shanghai, after Holly Knight left, and issued a self-titled album one Geffen records. To my knowledge, the album has never been re-issued on CD. It's a great album! Amanda's vocals are as good as on the two Spider albums.

I was into another one of my "spider" phases last week (Oct. 2004), picking out "I Love" on my guitar. It occurred to me that although the music has aged a bit, that they were one of those groups were talent should have taken them to the top. There are many first rang groups that are nowhere near as consistent in song-writing. As instrumentalist and musicians the just top notch. Even today -- listening to their music just awes me, inspires me and just makes me feel good all over.
