Comments for Stereolab, Refried Ectoplasm (Switched On Volume 2)

This is the second collection of nearly impossible to find Stereolab tracks. It contains songs from Duophonic 7"s, the Sub Pop 7",a tour only split 7" w/Unrest, a Slumberland 7", a proposed split 7" w/Spectrum, and a 10" collaboration w/ Nurse With Wound. This one is superior to Switched On Volume 1. The album begins with a needle slipping into a groove, then when a voice says "In stereophonic high speed master tape from the penthouse," you know what your in for. More of that good old Stereolab pop music. Standout include "Harmonium","John Cage Bubblegum" and the very experimental "Animal or Vegetable" which is in the vein of "Jenny Ondioline".It also includes the bands biggest hit to date "French Disko" (probably THE standout on here). This superior to most of there other work and although it doesn`t work great as an album the songs more than make up for it. It also comes in a cardboard package that gives it a nice lp like feel (the lp comes on double clear vinyl! very cool). Truly great and this sets them apart from all the other "post rock" bands in England.
