Comments for Straightjacket Fits, Melt

Straightjacket Fits rule! MELT is the only CD I own of SF, but I also have "Missing from Melt" which has Missing Presumed Drowned, Bad Note for a Heart, and alternate take of Skin to Wear and two other excellent B-sides. They are reminiscent of The Church, Echo & the Bunnymen & The Ocean Blue, yet harder-edged, but not heavy metal or even grunge. A unique sound! Check out Melt Against Yourself today.

FYI: The correct spelling of the group''s name is Straitjacket Fits (at least according to the CDs I have and their record label (http://www.flyingnun.nz.com/archive/sjfsbio.html). I found out about them while flying from LA to NZ for a skiing trip in 1991; the in-flight magazine had an article about them, labeling them "NZ''s U2." I found "Melt" during my week in NZ and, while not quite on a par with U2 at the time (Achtung Baby hadn''t come out yet so Joshua Tree was still (and still is) their high point), it was good enough to bear repeated listenings and an effort to search out other discs by the band. Unfortunately, it seems they are no longer together and I''ve heard nothing about the activities of the individual band members. (08/18/97)

I'll go one further and say one of the best ALBUMS written ever. Beautifully written, soulfully sublime and exquisite production....from memory the producer also did Priest=Aura by The Church....another fantastic piece of production! Respect to the Fits and R.I.P.
One day, when I was playing records at Radio One, the Otago University Student Radio Station, I found this notein the log book "Shayne Carter is God" - to all appearances, he had written it himself.Well, Shayne Carter may not be god, but he`s getting pretty good at making music. Roller Ride is excellent!Look for albums by the "Double Happies" too, for historicalantecedents of this band.
